Re: New Developments III
I wouldn't necessarily ignore the poll - anything that can motivate Democrats is a good thing - but I would ignore all the commentary surrounding it. Most of it will ultimately prove to be useless.

Re: The Official Review Thread of 2023
Just to clarify. By 'over the top' you mean it makes a great film even better, not 'over the top' meaning 'overdone', yes?

Re: New Developments III
Just one other point, and maybe this is a stretch but I hope not. If you've been following the House Speaker drama going on right now, it's clear that the elected Democrats are very much united and the Republicans are in utter disarray. I'd like to think there'll be a spillover effect onto the voter...

Re: New Developments III
Everyone says pay no attention to polls this far out from Election Day, and that should apply to all polls. Kennedy's not getting close to 15% of the Democratic vote once Election Day comes around. It's a bubble that won't sustain. Notice how interest in him deflated after his first emergence? It's ...

But... isn't this good? It would siphon votes away from Trump.Sabin wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 2:58 pm Sigh... here we go.

Yes, it's bad for the state of the country, but we're kinda there anyway.

Wonderful idea! It's a way to give some additional exposure to well-known, over-seen films.

Re: Best Picture and Director 1979
In a 2015 interview to promote her upcoming memoir, Mariel Hemingway spoke up about the how the role that won her an Academy Award nomination was in some ways an uncomfortable experience. At the time of filming, she was a 16-year-old virgin who'd never even really made out with anybody. She worried...

Re: Best Picture and Director 1979
Now THAT'S a very interesting question. I don't know, and of course there's no way I'd remember. And I would like to know that myself. But I doubt it looked anything like the rallies and book-burnings the loathesome Republican reactionaries are engaging in today regarding printed literature in schoo...

I refuse to believe you haven't had this conversation several times in your life already. You already know what the answers will be. You probably have some very clever counter-arguments you want to try out, too. Sometimes trolling's fun, I get it.

Re: R.I.P. Jimmy Buffett
When Gordon Lightfoot passed away, I was puzzled by notices calling him “legendary”, figuring it was just Boomer hyperbole. But I was soon set straight. Turned out a lot more people than I realized were fans of his, and not just Boomers. So I figured Lightfoot was an artist with a devoted following ...

He's such an inspiration. My daughter now wants to be the first indicted female president when she grows up.

Re: Trump & 18 Others Charged in Georgia RICO Indictment
I don't know how they can get any trial of 41 charges among 19 people underway in 6 months, let alone a "speedy" one. Growing up, I was always impressed with how familiar the older Boomers, particularly my parents, were with all the players in the Watergate scandal. Twice a year, it seemed...
