This is quite simply one of the finest films I ever seen. The closing twenty or so mins equal that of the opening twenty mins of Saving Private Ryan.

A fantastic film. Such a shame that it may go un-noticed at the Academy Awards.

Okay, now bear with me here, but Little Miss Sunshine is no Driving Miss Daisy - the last film to win Picture without its director nominated. A Little Miss Sunshine win seems to me a little reminiscent of the Crash victory last year. I don't know why. Call it an easy choice win. At this point I see...

I don't see any reason for thinking that Dreamgirls will win Best Ensemble. In fact, I can actually see The Departed winning for Ensemble and Supporting Actor.

Quote See that's the thing. When was the last time a legendary director won an "much deserved" Oscar AND had his film win Best Picture? It hasn't happened to my recollection... Would Spielberg count? He most definitely would. He may even hand Scorsese his first. Sorry if I'm being a prick...

Perhaps you're ignoring the Crash win a little too prematurely, OscarGuy. Maybe the Academy is changing its tune to Best Picture winners? Okay, even I don't believe that. Crash was good, but not Best Picture GOOD. However, you seem to be very insistent that Dreamgirls will triumph. I don't buy that...

The same guy from Goldderby that I mentioned in the SAG/WGA/DGA thread also said that only Graham King was listed by the PGA as a producer on The Departed, which may mean that Brad Pitt (and Brad Grey) will not be credited as producers for Academy purposes. That makes little to no sense, as Pitt an...

Quote (OscarGuy @ Jan. 03 2007,20:48) What is it about The Departed that doesn't feel right? I liked the movie but it doesn't seem like any other Oscar winner. It's not big and beautiful...it's very normal. It isn't a message movie and I just can't understand the love/appreciation that would earn i...

I can see The Departed winning Best Picture.

Like-wise.

I can't see the Academy finaly giving Scorsese his Best Director without honouring his film.

I could see The Departed but where did this Leo stuff come from? He's as far away from an Oscar as an actor can get. I get your point, OscarGuy, it is very much a long-shot. We have both Whitiker and O'Toole leading ahead of him, but I just can't see Whitiker winning. His film seems too small, and ...

Dreamgirls is definitely in, but for nominations only - The Departed looks good for the win (Best Picture, I mean). I'm also starting to think that DiCaprio will take Best Actor.

The two acting standouts for me were the late Michael Gambon and Tammy Blanchard

Michael Gambon isn't dead, Flipp.

I've just watched Pan's Labyrinth, and you who would make a great outsider choice for Supporting Actor? Doug Jones. His performance as Pan was as expressive as Willem Dafoe in Shadow of the Vampire.

Just a thought....

A very happy new year to you all.

2006 has been a great year for myself. It saw the birth of my son, so that can't be topped...

It's 4:25am where I am right now, and very, very drunk (pissed as a fart for all those Scots out there).

From everyone in North Uist…bliadhna mhath ur.
