The "acting" part of Jennifer Hudson's performance was certainly not great, though I thought she pulled off a pretty natural style. Regardless, her overall PERFORMANCE was pretty extraordinary, IMO, and I will be pleased when she walks off with the Oscar. She performed the hell out of her...

After watching this, I kept thinking that I wish they'd just hand the footage over to another editor, because there seems to be a good movie in there somewhere. The pacing in this film is just horrible (it completely runs out of steam at the end), and it can't seem to settle on the right tone. Ther...

I thought Gosling was amazing in Half Nelson. He's a natural, charismatic actor. You don't realize that he's doing any acting for much of the film--something that's hard to pull off in a role where his character is high or hung over the whole time. I hope more people check out this film. The only o...

Lily never hid her relationship with Jane Wagner, but neither did she explicitly say (in the public media, anyway) that she is gay until the year 2000, when she first used the word "gay" as applied to herself on a cable news program called Gay USA. She's been more open since then. The nam...

I don't know if she'll make it that long in the business. Name me one big black diva who's made it big without the gay audience. She needs the queens, and the black queens in particular. She's just shot herself in the foot by alienating her demographic.

Mandisa is too a homophobe. Here's a snippet from an interview she just did with the Advocate: Would you be comfortable performing or singing at a gay event? I would not, no. Would it conflict with your religious beliefs? Based on what I believe, I'm not an advocate for [being gay], so it's nothing...

Mandisa becomes a soldier on the wrong side of the culture war: check it out here.

I wonder if she'll lose more votes or gain more votes as a result of this? Seems like a lot of yahoos watch this show, as evidenced by the ridiculous Kellie Pickler being voted through week after week.

Is Ann Nesby the one from Sounds of Blackness? And the girl is named Paris something-or-other? The sound coming out of that girl's mouth was just phenomenal! I want to watch this season if just for the chance to hear her sing some more.

The article doesn't really give the flavor of Bush's response. Check out the clip to see our emotionally mature president at work here

I'm excited to hear that "The Mayor of Castro Street" has been green-lighted. It's a helluva compelling story, though of course they could schlock it up. I don't have much of an opinion on Bryan Singer. Any thoughts on who should play Harvey Milk, or Dan White?

These are good points, Eric, and I think you've tapped into a big tension that exists within the gay community today: is moving toward the mainstream (advocating for same-sex marriage the most obvious example) a move toward oppresive conformity and selling out, or not? Fact is, there are a lot of g...

I think they were comfortable with Tom Hanks in Philadelphia because he was sick and dying. It's okay to be queer if you're somehow not threatening: a silly queen, a pathetic queen, dying, or dead. Tragic, in some way. Of course, on a conscious level most people would deny this, but on a subconscio...

The characters of Ennis and Jack are the antithesis of the characters played by Nathan Lane and Hank AZaria in The Birdcage. These are both masculine, but not exaggeratedly uber-masculine, men. I think that's why so many gay men (me included) were excited about seeing this film. That brings up anot...
