Hmmm..... Fleming's out. No passes, but I don't feel strongly enough about Fleming/Menzies/Cukor/???'s work on Gone with the Wind to worry about it much. Ditto Sam Wood. I really like Wyler's work on Wuthering Heights , but I can't give him a fourth peneloscar So it's between Ford and Capra. Ford's...

Hey, let's talk about Brokeback Mountain a little bit. Wouldn't that be fun? I was thinking of replacing Brokeback Mountain with some random movie, just for the fun of it... Its score for one. I can only remember the overly sentimental theme music and nothing else. Was there any more to that films ...

1. Replacing Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Capote with Romain Duris in The Beat That My Heart Skipped 2. Replacing The Squid and the Whale in Original Screenplay with Arnaud Desplaichin's Kings and Queen . 3. The Corpse Bride replaces Memoirs of a Geisha in best art direction. Oscar or Big Magilla, I ...

Gleason, Chakris and Clift are all awesome, but I was curious if Clift or Gleason would pull it out (I didn't think you were gonna use that last pass. But I'll keep trying!!! :D)

Wouldn't the sheer amount of computer manipulation of people's faces, etc rule out the Fincher film? I mean, The Hours was ruled out because there was some CGI work done on Kidman's nose.

But we've been discussing the oscar prospects of Revolutionary Road damn near a year now. The Reader is on it's fifth page in our movie thread, and only one to two people have seen it. I find it odd that Slumdog Millionaire is the target of people's "oh, that AGAIN" complaints, as if it w...

In an interesting twist, I've seen four of the films. But not the winner. Anna Christie - ehh, don't remember much of it ("Gimme a viskey baby" - right?), so lets just assume it doesn't deserve it. The Love Parade is interesting. I love Lubitsch as a director and enjoy his early sound mus...

1. It's worth noting that Frozen River was the first screener sent to the academy, which doesn't hurt (Half Nelson and Junebug had similarly early campaigns). I'll buy Leo being ahead of Jolie, but only cause I don't think Jolie is really making a mark in this race. 2. How is In Bruges not a comedy...

And your point is?

That perhaps an animated film is not inherently unworthy by virtue of it's animation?

But a vampire movie is?

No, but maybe one starring the cheekbone of the month directed by Hardwicke adapted from the teen sensation might be.

Christ, Irwin, do you really think your time on earth is so long that you can give over 3 hours of your existence (including travel tie to the theatre) to sit through something like this? . It's better than sitting through Twilight . And your point is? That perhaps an animated film is not inherentl...
