Wow. I don't get the hate for Luke, Anonymous. I didn't get to see him last week, but I thought he was pretty good vocally last night. I thought he was pretty good too. Listened back to the mp3--which is the best way to evaluate these performances--and still liked it. Best, most difficult song choi...

Speaking of best actress: was that Terence Stamp alongside Julie Christie? I realize they go back far (and madding), but are they some item I don't know about? I think that was her husband (with whom she's been since 1979, but only married a few months ago), journalist Duncan Campbell, who does loo...

but I think it's stupid that Day-Lewis always stays in character the entire time on and off the set during filming. why is it stupid? I don't know that I could really explain why. More than the fact that he stays in character throughout filming, I'm annoyed by the idea some people have that this pr...

It may mean that I don't fully appreciate great acting, but I think it's stupid that Day-Lewis always stays in character the entire time on and off the set during filming. He started doing that around the same time he quit appearing onstage. I don't really care for most of his performances since, a...

All I know about the fashion is that if Rebecca Miller doesn't make the worst dressed lists, it's because she isn't well-known enough.

About 20-21 minutes, if you count closing credits.

Good Lord. The ceremony's barely over. I'll come back to this thread after the dust settles on this year. (Or maybe I'm just holding off because I've always considered this Mister Tee's thread.)

Related point: whose STUPID idea was it to present this category so early in the evening? It practically killed the suspense for the rest of the night. That's true. If they had wanted to give out a lead acting award that early, it should've been Actor, so we would still have had some suspense to ta...

He had a decent speech--not special, but not stupid--going until he decided to act like Daniel Day-Lewis had anything to do with his cinematography win.

HA!

I didn't mind him too much in There Will Be Blood, but I still think that Tommy Lee Jones's performance was far better.

I'm not crazy about this mediocrity of a song (sounds like a throwaway cut on a singer-songwriter's album circa 1971, and I hate how it goes upscale, which plays against the emotions of the lyrics), but loved that Jon Stewart brought the chick back. Let this be an everlasting slap in the face of th...

Sonic Youth wrote:I just realized four of the nominees are war films.
Apparently, the other one (12), has wartime flashbacks. And it's also an adaptation of 12 Angry Men, although I never would've guessed either of those things in the short clip they showed.

I don't think I'll be too upset at the end of the night. My favorite of the nominees is the frontrunner in Picture and Director. In Actor, Tommy Lee Jones is far and away my favorite, but I'm resigned to Daniel Day-Lewis winning. His performance is big and attention-grabbing, while Jones's is quiet...
