On that note, Manoel de Oliveira is a pretty obvious choice. At 103 is the oldest living director working.
And maybe 4% of Academy members know who he is.

Re: Jessica Lange & Sam Shepard Split

Wow, that's almost as surprising as the bust-up of that asshole Tim Robbins and the bitch he shacked up with.

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1947

This is a very tough one, I would have been happy with any of four of the nominees winning. Not even in consideration is Thomas Gomez. Never a particularly interesting actor, he doesn't even have an interesting character to play in Ride The Pink Horse. Robert Ryan was one of the great post-war film ...

Re: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part I

Wes, have you even seen any of the Twilight movies? I've seen the first 2 films. The first one was hilariously bad and the second one was bad, but lacked the bad movie entertainment value of the first. I'm probably going to finish the franchise, but I'm not a fan. Wes, that question was actually ad...

Re: R.I.P. Christopher Hitchens

He brought discourse down to the level of Ann Coulter and was as despicable as she. I think he well deserves any vitriol he receives.

Re: Top Ten Lists

SALON -- Andrew O'Hehir Crafting an annual top-10 list is no doubt a ludicrous exercise, and I’m not promising I’d have given you the same answers a month ago, or will give you the same ones a month from now. But over the years I’ve grown to appreciate the fact that it forces critics to stop hiding ...

Re: Top Ten Lists

Roger Ebert: 1. “A Separation” It is specifically Iranian, but I believe the more specific a film is about human experience, the more universal it is. On the other hand, movies “for everybody” seem to be for nobody in particular… “A Separation” will become one of those enduring masterpieces watched ...

This article by Glenn Greenwald of Salon eloquently spells out why Hitchens was such an abhorrent person:

Re: Top Ten Lists

Seems like Bridesmaids is a masterpiece. Too bad - I had carefully avoided it when it opened in Italy, and now I'll have to find it... I only saw bits and pieces of it while my beloved was watching it on pay-per-view, but believe me, Marco, if you see it you will (justifiably) think even less of Am...
