I thought I had reached the point where I could tolerate the soulless crap of ABBA but then I listened to the crass soundtrack. These songs are merely tolerable when sung by real singers, but whoever the casting director for the freakin' film was and whoever make the decision not to dub Colin Firth...

One pick only in round two.

You can have original screenplay as a make-up nomination because you didn't select one in round one but you must choose between your other three selections for your round two pick.

E.W. has apparently been inspired by the re-design of TV Guide, another mis-step in my estimation but one that has probably been profitable. They've even hired TV's chief gossip. I thought perhaps that Lisa Schwartbaum might be gone as Owen Glieberman has been doing most of teh major reviews lately...

Preserving General Della Rovere in Best Original Screenplay. If I get a second choice, I'm preserving Babes in Toyland because I recall enjoying the music. You were supposed to make three selections and close out the year so I'll count both of these and we'll go to DWS for the last shot. Edited By ...

I think even Guinness thought his part in A Passage to India should have been played by an Indian but David Lean considered him a good luck charm or something and insisted on his casting. Guinness brought a great deal of dignity to his role in A Majority of One, something that can't be said for Mic...

He was free to make his own choice, I was merely making a suggestion, but why do you say Garland would have been a more obvious one? Dietrich's character and performance were the stronger IMO. Marthe Keller won a Tony nomination playing Dietrich's role in the Broadway version a few years ago so evi...

Yeah, it is kind of cool, but the premise that these films are unknown is untrue. His review of The Conqueror refers to it as a "lost masterpiece". It is neither lost - having been out on DVD for some time - nor a classic - it's badly miscast and infamous as the film whose location shooti...

Very funny. Reminds me of a co-worker circa 1974, a young woman my age, who had a male friend in the business though in what capacity I don't recall. Anyway, one day she was having lunch with this friend who also happened to invite Shirley MacLaine to the same luncheon. When she came back from lunc...

Round Two - Hustler, you're up - one pick in any category with fewer than 13 mentions, which at this point is all of them.
