Oscar voting ceased yesterday. And, all of the precursors are done.
I think we have very few uncertainties this year.

Re: American Cinema Editors Guild or "Eddies"
Interesting. The favorite for the Oscars before tonight leaned towards Sound of Metal.

Re: BAFTA Winners
With these exceptions, the Oscar favorites all won. Agree that McDormand is a placeholder. But that Hopkins got it because he's one of the local guys and was extraordinarily impressive. Hopkins' win is a major upset. McDormand's win is a placeholder for Mulligan at the Oscars. Otherwise, no real sur...

Re: Nomadland
I still think there has to be a better choice. We're all depressed enough as it is.
Re: Nomadland
Nomadland just won the PGA Award. More points as the Oscar favorite when there is no obvious competition.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 seems the most logical runner-up. If enough steam builds up, The Father is mainstream and socially-relevant enough.

Yes, it would be nice to have someone attuned to the mind of the WGA commenting on this board.

The Father Reviews
A strong, well-integrated story of a man with Alzheimer’s. Sad but a harsh and real depiction of the struggle with a mind’s decline. The script and direction are tight, and the acting is excellent. Anthony Hopkins as the father is the anchor of the film, with strong support from Olivia Coleman as hi...

Re: 2020 Oscar Nominations
I think Best Pic is between Nomadland and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
Nomadland is depressing and plays like a docudrama at times. So I'm not 100% certain that it will win.
It certainly is the favorite, though.

I really liked Da 5 Bloods. Hoping that means a shot for Spike Lee.

You guys were right on the money.
I do question whether Fennell survives to the Oscars.

Re: Nomadland
I wish there was another mainstream film that Hollywood can rally around this awards season. Nomadland doesn't seem to have any competition. Nomadland is so depressing. It's not quite the "next American frontier" movie that's been advertised. There's grit and some optimism, but it's hard t...
