Yes, but those don’t heat up the room during the ceremony.

Re: SAG Thoughts/Winners to be Added

After watching the ceremony I felt a kind of indifference towards the winners overall, except Lily Gladstone. She was the only one that got a standing ovation which makes me believe that she will win the Oscar.

I’m afraid we are heading to a very dull Oscar ceremony.

Although the Lisbon portrayed in the film has zero to do with the actual real city, the real Lisbon has in fact a very luminous light specially in the summer :D

Re: New category: Best Achievement in Casting

How does one evaluate Best Casting? All other categories are tangible. A performance is a performance, make up is make up, original score is music and so on… what is Best Casting?

Re: Category Fraud Alert (2023) -- Correcting Oscar

I think maybe the most apt analogy for this sudden Bening push would be Art Carney 1974 -- a well-liked veteran whose film wasn't as big a deal as those of his competitors (three to-then un-Oscared superstars in best picture nominees). But, even there, Carney had been spoken of far more strongly as...

Re: "Frauds" and "Snubs"

The problem with your frustration is that I find conversations about "snub" and "fraud" tend to lead to a lot of good conversations. Maybe not in general but certainly on this board. The word snub is definitely thrown around loosely and it's pretty subjective. Category fraud isn...

Plus, they were all brits. The British contingent in the acting branch has a lot of weight.

Yes, 1996. Sorry for that

Re: Good ole days

I first came across Wes’s website in November 1995 when he was predicting The Crucible would sweep the following year.

My first recollections of the board date back to the 1999 awards. We even had an academy nominee as a member. The editor of The Sixth Sense.

Re: Final Oscar Predictions

I had a feeling America Ferrera would pull off… But why did she have to "pull off"? She didn’t “have to”. It’s an out of the box nomination, usually a cottail, for limited screen time roles that sometimes show up in the list. Marina de Tavira, Laura Dern in Wild are the most recent exampl...

Re: I'm always here for the Trivia

Only 13 movies nominated under acting+picture. One of the lowest ever after the expansion of the best picture category.
