Even just the idea of MENTIONING Martha Hyer sounds rather weird. Why? Well, unless we discuss Some Came Running or the 1958 Oscars, I wouldnt say that Martha Hyer is the first actress who comes to my mind, or the most representative of her generation, what do you think? Actually it's the ''female ...

Big Magilla channeled the rationale a typical, older Oscar voter (in this case specifically, Martha Hyer) might adapt in not choosing Carey Mulligan on their ballot in the predictions thread. I was fascinated by how effortlessly he slipped into her psyche. I think Magilla's example of Martha Hyer w...

Lily in Love (Karoly Makk, 1984) 2/10

A retread of Ferenc Molnar's The Guardsman set on a film set in Hungary. Christopher Plummer hams it up while Maggie Smith is radiant as his wife. What ugly grainy photography!

I don't dislike 3 Women, I'm just not all that enamored of it. Let's not forget that the AARP gave Joan Plowright its best actress award for Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont and Reza gave her one his Oscar Shouldabeens for it. She won mine for Tea With Mussolini. ??? I guess you're not the only Rex Re...

Oops I totally forgot Loren in A Special Day. Yes she was great in it....better than Mastroianni.

I think everyone was so overwhelmed by the spate of American films suddenly appearing with strong female roles after the previous two years that Loren got sidelined.

Sorry I'm going off into a tangent but is there still a cinema on Bleecker Street? I recall watching a number of films there in the 1980s.

Mason I like a lot better than either of her co-stars, the over-rated Dreyfuss and the precocious brat who played her daughter. LOL. I love Drefuss' performance in The Goodbye Girl. Voted for Keaton. The Doctor Takes a Wife (Alexander Hall, 1940) 5/10

Screwball antics between a spinster writer (Loretta Young) and a doctor (Ray Milland) pretending to be married to each other and the complications that ensue. The leads look their best while doing their thing.
