Yes, Penelope is probably right :;): But I guess the Oscars - which can be looked at both in a serious way and as trashy fun - are perfect for a certain kind of gay man.

Well, let's face it, on this board there are only three heterosexuals among the regular contributors (I counted them!) so it HAD to happen... and it's not a bad thing.

I'm beginning to wonder about "Pan's Labyrinth." Maybe that's the threat to "Volver" in the Best Foreign Language category, and not "The Lives of Others." Or maybe they'll cancel each other out and "Volver" wins. I don't understand... Why should "Pan's L...

‘Dreamgirls’ is enjoyable, but no showstopper Choppy editing, directorial missteps mar this enjoyable musical Not surprising to anyone who has seen a Bill Condon movie before. Still, I find all this fascinating. Over the years, this board has given me an insight into the American way of thinking wh...

It was considered to be a masterpiece in Europe from the start. But its American producers thought Leone's movie to be too complicated for the American audience so as far as I know they distributed a different, easier-to-follow (!) version which was of course a total flop.

Didn't know that Maastricht was so beautiful... But I've heard great things about Brugge (it's in Belgium though). Must also be very romantic. I love that part of Europe, too.

Less than one day in Venice? Yes, you should definitely go there again - I visit it at least once a year (it is admittedly very close to where I live), and I always discover new corners, new backgrounds - it's a feast for the eyes, and for the heart. It was definitely a travelling orchestra. Morric...

Akash, trust me, till now this has been a different year for the board. Now I guess that some serious predictions will start (and by the way, mine will still include Dreamgirls as a Best Picture hopeful), but before yesterday it was mostly just rooting for Bill Condon - something which had never ha...

Well, Eric, it's not like I'm implying that most people here are REALLY coward... but you know what I mean. You are right - the Oscars and especially the Globes aren't necessarily a tribute to art... but then we also have the critics' awards - shouldn't the critics understand something about movies...
