I'm not sure if anyone on here is in the Washington, D.C. area but the following silent films are playing at the National Gallery of Art starting this weekend. The National Gallery is located at 401 Constitution Avenue, Northwest. The Scarlet Letter (1926) Starts on Saturday, Dec. 16 The Girl From ...

What about Matt Damon? I can't believe that Mark Wahlberg is getting more traction for Oscar than he is. He's really the second lead in The Departed , but they could make a case for nominating him in supporting along with Nicholson. I think if Damon isn't nominated, then only Nicholson will get the...

Looks like we may be safe. His representatives are saying that it wasn't a stroke now. I just got back from dinner with a couple of Hill staffers (at the hot new restaurant, BLT Steak on Eye Street), one of whom works closely with someone in Johnson's office. According to him, everyone has calmed d...

I forgot to mention Djimon Honsou as a potential upsetter. What about Jackie Earle Haley? He seems like just the kind of out-of-the-blue Marcia Gay Harden type contender to swoop in and win the award in an upset if there are so many strikes against those you've already listed. Others that could pot...

Something I thought about last night: If the Oscars end up going with the conventional wisdom line-up of Cruz, Dench, Mirren, Streep, and Winslet for Best Actress, this will be the first time in [I'm not sure how long] that all of the performances are 'modern-day'. Only Mirren's could possibly be n...

criddic, I'm really glad your BSActress predictions didn't come to fruition. A couple of those choices would've really disappointed me (i.e. Diane Lane).

This was suggested by someone over at OscarWatch so take it with the grain of salt with which it was intended, but does anyone else think that The Devil Wears Prada has a chance of being nominated for Best Picture? I know, I know. At first, I kind of balked but then I started to think about it more...

I loved Gyllenhaal's inclusion, too. I think she's been the best thing about some so-so films (World Trade Center, Stranger Than Fiction, Sherrybaby). Also, happy about the continued success of the Babel girls. Will they both make it in? Barraza was simply transcendent. I'm psyched that Emily Blunt...

There's currently speculation making the rounds that Phyllis will actually end up dying in childbirth. I saw a whole promo for the new issue of Soap Opera Digest announcing "Will Phyllis Die?" I think this will be the point at which Sheila (who, if you'll remember had plastic surgery to l...

I think Cohen's the stretch. A sketch comic in a sketch comic role hasn't gotten a nomination the Academy Awards that I can immediately recall. Robin Williams in Good Morning, Vietnam?? Though I suppose he was already a star by the time this film came out. Williams had the well-reviewed title role ...
