Re: Best Animated Feature

Are these the first guys to thank their fellow nominees? I don't recall anyone else doing that during this show.

Re: Best Foreign Language Film

Great speech. Best moment of a rather dull show thus far.

I doubt it.

Re: Mark Caro's Oscar Quiz

13 for me. Most were guesses. Though correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Katherine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson tie for 12 nominations? I seem to have gotten that question wrong by picking Hepburn.

Re: Animated Feature Shortlist

I'd say The Book of Life, How to Train Your Dragon 2 and The Lego Movie will be the nominees if there are three. If five, then The Boxtrolls and them a random one none of us could have predicted.

Re: Soccer World Cup 2014

My money is on the Germans, though I don't think a European team has ever won the tournament in South America. However, the way this World Cup is going, anyone could win. I'm hoping for a European final, but I have a suspicion that Brazil will make it. On a lighter note, as a Scotsman I took great p...

Re: General Show Discussion

I'd just like to add a point to Norbet situation. I don't remember this being brought up at the time, but did anyone ask the question why DreamWorks, who produced both Norbet and Dreamgirls, would release an embarrament like Norbet while they were also pushing Murphy for the Oscar for the other? I k...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Adapted Screenplay

While I want the two screenplay awards to go to THE WOLF OF WALL STREET and HER, I predict they will go to 12 YEARS A SLAVE and AMERICAN HUSTLE. I was not aware of John Ridley's issues with the unions, but I am really, really surprised more has not been made out of the fact that the two likely winn...

Re: Categories One-By-One: Supporting Actress

ksrymy, do you have any comprehension of history? 12 Years a Salve was not attempting to make a feminist point. The fact that you were looking for "girl power" clearly indicates that you have no idea what this film was about. Lupita Nyong'o's performance is as close to an accurate depictio...

Re: Categories One-By-One: Supporting Actress

Lupita Nyong'o should and will win for both her amazing debut performance and as tribute to all the real life Patseys who never had a chance. ... to win an Oscar? Yes. I don't think Patsy Kensit ever won an Oscar. Or Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous. But enough of the hilarious nonsense. Lupita Nyong...

I have to admit, I was kind of looking forward to watching this song being performed. I was hoping it was going to be a car-crash TV moment.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Sound Editing

Here's my question... With so much of Gravity intentionally soundless (whenever debris hits those satellites), isn't Gravity a rather wonky front-runner? I've been thinking the exact same thing. I'm sure it will win here as part if its tech sweep, but I reckon Captain Philips should be the front ru...
