Re: Critics Choice Awards Show and Winners
Having seen THE POWER OF THE DOG twice, I believe Campion deserves accolades for both her writing and directing. The dialogue is sparse, but what is said cuts like a scalpel. Much like DRIVE MY CAR, it tells us so much without ever being obvious (unlike some of the other scripts nominated this year...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Song
Honestly, I thought her song for the documentary she wrote with Lady Gaga should have got her the Oscar. That was a stunning and poignant song... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rufPMisw4o I have watched this clip several times since the ceremony, and I can never get through it without crying. An ...

Re: Critics Choice Awards Show and Winners
I think The Power of the Dog is still in the running for Best Original Score but it isn't looking promising at this point. Nor are its screenplay chances, considering that CODA just took the BAFTA. I've thought for a moment now that The Power of the Dog might be seen as more a feat of Jane Campion'...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Song
Serious question: can Diane Warren really be enjoying these yearly pointless nominations? I think I'd find it humiliating, but of course I'm not her. Why should she be embarrassed? Does John Williams feel humiliated when he is nominated for absolutely middling scores, particularly when they push ou...

1. Drive My Car 2. Licorice Pizza 3. Dune 4. The Power of the Dog 5. Belfast 6. Nightmare Alley 7. West Side Story 8. King Richard 9. Don't Look Up 10. CODA Anything past the top 4 I could easily have skipped. We may have them in a different order, but your top four is the only one I agree with so ...

Crossing Delancey is a sweet comedy romance with Amy Irving, Peter Riegert, and Reizel Bozyk as Iriving's grandmother. Irving was nominated for a Golden Globe, losing to Melanie Griffith in Working Girl . Between the Lines and Chilly Scenes of Winter also have their moments. I haven't seen anything...

It could be a closer race than we think but I'm still leaning towards Dune . I feel like this statement could be applied to every category DUNE is expected to win. It could either be the run away champion of the night with easily 7 wins , or it could be completely shut-out. This is how I see the ch...

Silver was contacted by David O. Selznick's 80-year-old former publicist who he hired to sell the film's Oscar potential by exhibiting in the homes of Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and other Hollywood bigwigs as well as at the Motion Picture Home it in the days before DVDs. Allegedly the publicist wanted...

All these categories and THE GREEN KNIGHT was completely shut-out?!? Some of the categories only had four nominees. Very strange.

With just two feature films under his belt, writer/director Robert Eggers has established himself as a uniquely visionary filmmaker. Both his movies were noted for their use of period appropriate language, even if it alienated more mainstream viewers. Interestingly, NORTHMEN seems to be a linguistic...

Re: Hollywood Critics Association Awards 2021
I don't want to be known as a sex symbol. There's a great stigma that goes with that tag. I want to be a Sam Elliott. This gives me more insight on his comment about the cowboys looking like Chippendales dancers. Despite owing his career partly to how (admittedly) handsome he was, he clearly has a ...

Hilarious comment from someone whose most famous role was spent entirely in a bathing suit. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074798/reference/ As others have pointed out , this man's cowboy persona was adopted in his later years rather than authentically developed over his lifetime. Much like George W...
