So, Bradley Cooper, Leonardo DiCaprio, Paul Giamatti, Cillian Murphy, and Wright?
Interesting line up. At this stage who do you think can win?

Re: Post-Festival Predictions

It really looks like a pedigree year. Question mark is what is the movie that qualifies this year as the highly anticipated sight unseen that turns out to be a stinker. Apparently the Kate Winslet movie will not be the vehicle to another Oscar nomination that many were predicting. Could it be The Co...

Massive earthquake in Morocco yesterday evening, local time.

I arrived yesterday morning from a short brake in Marrakesh, the epicentre.

My heart goes to everyone in Morocco.

Re: Coup de Chance reviews

Cancel Culture is as made up a concept as Death Panels. The right wingers came up with the idea of Cancel Culture when they started having to pay for their words and actions. In the real world, it's called consequences. They don't like the consequences being applied to them, so they gripe about the...

Re: Coup de Chance reviews

So who are these people who hold so much influence that a film by Woody Allen cannot get a release in the United States? The alleged drama took place decades ago and until 2017 all his films got released. Has it been proven that Woody is guilty of all the accusations by Mia Farrow and Dylan which i...

Big Magilla wrote It's not that those four lead actresses were locked in as that they were probable nominees along with Joanne Woodward in The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds. Maggie Smith over Woodward was a bit of a surprise, but not a shock. It sounds like Travels with My Aunt ...

Re: 1973 Oscar Shouldabeens

Just watched The Long Goodbye for the first time. Although I was not that much impressed by the film overall I really liked Sterling Hayden’s performance and deserving of a best supporting actor nomination. Was he under the radar back in 1973? Also, the title song is pretty catchy but it also got ov...

Her song “You made me the thief of your heart” composed by Bono and Gavin Friday for 1993’s In the Name of the Father is a great song that was overlooked by the Oscars (but not by the Globes btw).

Yes he does although it seems that the (bloggers) narrative to reward Robert Downey Jr. for Oppenheimer has just started.

Yes, you should. Season 4 (the last one) is probably the best thing I’ve ever seen made for television, right on par with The Sopranos.

If you haven’t seen any episode yet bear in mind that season 3 is somewhat disappointing.

Re: Honorary Oscars

the Academy twisted their rules for obvious reasons. Just as they have now done with Bassett and earlier with Euzhan Palcy. All "desperate" choices when more deserving individuals could have been recognised instead. Absolutely. Palcy’s choice was appalling and Basset’s can even be conside...

Re: Honorary Oscars

I think it's dumb to give an Honorary Oscar to a man who has two Oscars (IMDb doesn't list it, but he has a Short Film Oscar from the 60's; he's talked about it in interviews) already and is an EGOT winner. I get it with Bassett, although it does feel a little bit like, "we're sorry about Supp...

In what world is Angela Basset more deserving than Glenn Close, Harrison Ford, Catherine Deneuve, Claire Denis, Ridley Scott, Ed Harris, etc… etc… it really looks like an apology award

Re: Best Picture and Director 1977

A bit of trivia (if I’m not mistaken): with only 9 different films 1977 has the lowest number of films nominated for best picture plus the acting categories. On a side note: back in November 2003 when I was travelling to Brazil and still recovering from jet lag I caught up Looking for Mr Goodbar com...
