Re: Categories One-by-One: Cinematography

You all have said everything on this category, but just some quick thoughts: 2007 was a tough year for predicting tech categories indeed, and Roger Deakins was nominated twice for No country for old men and Jesse James (two outstanding works) and finally There will be blood won. How this man doesn't...

Re: SAG Awards

Yes, Harry Goldfarb, the material is not very good, and I agree that the character was cliched because of the lines and the character drawing he was given, but that doesn't mean the performance isn't terrific, and for me he suceeds on every level, no matter the movie, the screenplay or the superfici...

Re: SAG Awards

In terms of supporting actress standards, I truly don't think Arquette's winning would be an embarrassment. For me, she will be a much better winner than Cruz, Leo, Spencer, Hathaway and Nyong'o, for instance. I kind of feel that her victory will be unique in many aspects, and it's true that subtlet...

Re: SAG Awards

I think this puts Redmayne clearly in the lead. Yeah... I mean, anyone who wins the Golden Globe AND the SAG award, who's in a Best Picture nominee and who plays the showy role of a real-life disabled scientist MUST be considered a front-runner, like it or not. And the BAFTA will probably seal this...

Re: PGA Winner

I's say that The imitation game could be that Chariots of fire you mean, Italiano, with Weinstein-mob behind, but after all it seems unlikely today. Exactly. The Imitation Game COULD be today's Chariots of Fire - and that's why I expected it to triumph here. It didn't - and while it's true that Boy...

Re: PGA Winner

Well, we all know that Boyhood isn't the typical Best Picture Oscar winner - which, of course, doesn't mean that it WON'T win: I still think that it will, but simply because there aren't suitable alternatives - there isn't a Chariots of Fire in sight. But the fact that the producers picked Birdman ...

Re: PGA Winner

Such good news at last, and some fresh air too. I hope tonight SAG has something different to say from Keaton/Redmayne, Moore, Simmons, Arquette, because this is being a boring race indeed until now. Nevertheless, I think that even with Birdman with PGA and SAG and Linklater with DGA Boyhood could a...

Re: Nomination Talk

I don't get Laura Dern's nod for Wild. It was basically a silent part with minimal lines where she just grins throughout her brief scenes. What made them vote for her? I think she delivers a beautiful performance, and it's the kind of part that suceeds in feeling her presence through the whole movi...
