God bless Helen Mirren. I just saw "The Queen", which was the most applauded movie at the Venice Film Festival, and I can tell you: it's true, she's terrific. We all know that she's the kind of actress that - at least in the last years - usually gets nominated at the Oscars only to be bea...

I agree with you, Penelope. One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen - and I have been to many, many places. I was in Istanbul - just a short visit, on my way back to Italy from Damascus - less than two weeks ago, my fifth time there. It's not only the views, the palaces, the mosques (all ...

It's a forgotten movie, but a well made one and, even by today's standards, quite effective. This story of a former paedophile who's trying to change and forget his past but is haunted by it is treated with sympathy and understanding - though of course this is a very decent paedophile, and a relati...

Still anyone here seems to have seen it. Interesting. Anyway, I started the Bill Condon discussion just because I mistakenly thought a post in the first page of this thread was the last one, and I was replying to that post. But, I mean, only on this board criticizing Bill Condon's work seems to be ...

We were talking about Bill Condon. Let's go on talking about him - I never mentioned Benigni in this thread. But you do, of course - because defending Condon is impossible unless you compare him with someone who is, in your opinion, obviously worse (and Italian, which helps). I expect this from the...

One day Oscar Guy will learn that being in the minority doesn't necessarily mean being wrong. But this day, I'm afraid, will not come soon. "Gods and Monsters" and "Kinsey" are NOT great movies. "La Dolce Vita" is a great movie. "Stagecoach" is a great movie....

Ok, ok, but let's wait till we see the movie, please... It's not like we are talking about Martin Scorsese or David Lynch - directors whose work, even when their movies turn out to be disappointing, is always at least interesting and worth being discussed. Directors, I mean, with a strong personali...

Bill Condon winning Best Director? Ok, we had Norman Taurog and Delbert Mann... but it's very, very unlikely.

Thank you Sabin. I knew you wouldn't be far from this board for too long :-)
Do you finally have msn now?

I'm back to Italy, by the way. But I miss the Middle East already - its confusion, its emotions, its dangers even. An unforgettable - though unusual and sometimes difficult - summer.

Thank you - or, as they say here, shoukran... Am in scarred, unrecognizable Beirut now - maybe for the last time in my life. So sad to see a place you've loved so much in such a situation: a once proud city now humiliated, once lively now so silent - and on the verge of a possibly even bigger disas...

Thank you guys... A big collective hug from hot (in many, many ways) Damascus - where the only "big" movie opening in the only western-oriented cinema is "Firewall" with Harrison Ford... No wonder they hate us so much!
