To paraphrase My Cousin Vinny...you're SERIOUS about that? Are you talking worldwide? Because, domestically, I think the film will miss that mark by a country mile.

The one exception seems to be my beloved An Education... I'm with Magilla in thinking this is mostly a Globes bump (as with Milk or Capote), and that Molina and the screenplay will rally back (as will the film, in a ten-wide field.) I'm with you till the last clause. I know everyone put the film on...

Big Magilla wrote:Roberts' film was a quickly forgotten piece of crap that must have bored even her and Clive Owen when they made it.
That may be your opinion, Magilla, but it's far from universally shared. The film was a box office disappointment, but the reviews were in glowing territory.

What I dread: when Precious gets best picture but not best director, and we have a two-pronged fight over whether he was left off because he's black or because he's gay. I think most people will be able to see that Daniels' fiddling with the film -- with some, at times, rather insulting directorial...

I was in transit, Sonic, and unable to comment before now. My reaction throughout the rushed reading was, Yeah, as expected. There were none of the pleasant surprises of years past -- like In Bruges, or Match Point. Maybe Julia Roberts, although she was the thing I liked least about Duplicity. Side...

If I may interject a moment -- does anyone know for sure if E! is carrying these nominations tomorrow morning? My on-screen guide doesn't have it listed, but they've been wrong before. I don't want to have to hunt under time pressure.

Thank you. Resume regularly scheduled programming.

It's hard for me to imagine people honoring Hurt Locker for screenplay, given its non-verbal-ness, but A Serious Man also has difficulties for voters. This might be the time Pixar wins. I'm thinking the ten-ness of the best picture category will make it easier to separate out Bigelow from her film ...

As many have said, there was alot of place-filling this year -- Collins, Adjani and Lange could as easily have been left out (though Lange isn't bad, in a generally uninteresting movie). I'd have accepted Turner in War or Ellen Barkin in Sea of Love as replacements...not from enthusiasm, but to hav...

I wish I saw in The Hurt Locker what all these critics seem to.

I'm more interested in what the runners-up were than in these choices.

Streep is picking up speed.

Can a double-play of critics in NY and LA deny Pixar its routine Oscar?

There is one kernel of truth in your last post, Italiano. It is true that I only show up here to troll (and to read Mister Tee's posts). Being that I've obviously checked out of interacting with anyone here on the level, it's once again time to reassess my values. I can only presume Penelope's life...

Not related to LAFCA...but I just learned from another board that Kathryn Bigelow is James Cameron's ex-wife. Am I the only one who didn't know this? Could it be possible that, come Oscar time, Best Director will feature, for the first time, exes competing against each other!!! It's amazing this ha...

About a 12-hour window to guess at the NY Critics' results. I'm thinking they'll mix some things up further, but confirm others. NY, as discussed elsewhere, only releases winners, but we generally get the rundown on the top three, so that's how I've opted to project: a winner, and two runners-up. F...

They seem to be doing what New York does and announce them slowly as they are voted on. I don't think that's official policy of the NYFFC. In past years there has been a mole texting results to the outside world. I wouldn't expect it to happen again this year, as said mole no longer lives in New Yo...
