Re: The 19th Annual Who'll Be Back?

Some random thoughts inspired by the below If Daniel Day Lewis wants to return, he'll likely get a nomination. I don't know if he'll return, though. I actually can imagine him retiring and then staying retired (a la Gene Hackman). But if he's inspired to return, I've gotta imagine whatever inspires ...

Re: Oscars' Hat Tricks party game

Tee's assertion fits me pretty much perfectly - I find two that are either very strong or very weak, only to be foiled by one of the neighbours. Adapted Screenplay probably has to be the early 90's trio: Silence of the Lambs, Howards' End and Schindler's List are pretty unimpeachable choices. Or may...

Re: Trivia

In terms of straight dollars or multiplier? Because Return of the King outgrossed Lost in Translation by 330 million, but a lower factor.

Not gonna lie, couldn't even finish the Tur interview without wanting to reach through my monitor and <insert random violent act here>. She should be canonized for that.

Re: Black Panther Reviews

I liked it a fair bit. Wouldn't go as far as the raves - Erhlich gave it a B+ which seems fair (I'd probably drop it to a B, though). Glad it's making tonnes of money, curious if Hollywood takes the right lessons or not.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Picture

1. Yes, yes they do. 2. Also yes 3. I think so, but I wonder if the way that AMPAS has been comfortable splitting picture/director means that the enthusiasm for TSOW ends up being directed towards del Toro specifically as opposed to the film in general. 4. Agreed - no hate towards it (I'd argue that...

Re: Categories One by One: Best Supporting Actor

I thought of the Tommy Lee Jones comparison as well, and given that Jones got a surprise best actor nomination, I think I will predict Harrelson. I've gotta be honest, though, I'm at the point where being right with predictions is less important that having fun with them.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Animated Feature

Pretty much. I liked The Breadwinner a good deal more than Coco, but Coco will be a solid winner (I do think the former should've been nominated ahead of most of the adapted screenplay category).

Categories One by One: Best Supporting Actor

Let’s jaw about this one, that may or may not be as straightforward as we think. So, Christopher Plummer? What first appeared as a stunt from Scott was taken seriously. I’m not sure how or why, to be honest. But a man who waits 50+ years into his career to get three nominations in less than a decade...
