Re: Honorary Oscar Winners
I'm not up on my knowledge of film producers so I can't really say who is overdue among them for recognition. Are there any that are "Thalberg-worthy" that have been overlooked? Probably Kathleen Kennedy qualifies. At 62, she's not precisely "young"... And after NINE unsuccessfu...

Re: Honorary Awards to O'Hara, Miyazaki, Carriere, Belafonte
The AFI does, however, have a strict rule that the recipient must show up. The only winner who didn't was Irene Dunne who became ill at the last moment. Even Katharine Hepburn showed up for that one. I think you mean the Kennedy Center honors and not the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, as neither D...

Because that's when he died, almost three years ago, on July 25th 2011 to be exact.

Re: Best Picture and Director 2000
I think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Traffic were the best directed of the nominees, but this is my only chance to vote for Billy Elliot so my vote goes to Stephen Daldry for what is likely to be the only one he gets. Daldry stands at four votes for now, which means that two people other than...

Re: Cheryl Boone Isaacs elected AMPAS president
A nice choice, even if the election of such a Hollywood insider certainly won't be breaking news.

Re: Notable Firsts or Records
Name all performers who have a perfect record of Oscar wins-to-nominations, where the total nominations > 1. All these performers are a perfect 2 for 2. Helen Hayes Luise Rainer Vivien Leigh Hilary Swank Melvyn Douglas Kevin Spacey Christoph Waltz Melvyn Douglas got another nomination in Lead for I...

Re: 2012 Oscar Nominations
Has there been a time when an Academy associated human (president or something) was nowhere to be found on nominations morning? Academy president Hawk Koch was actually present at the announcement, as he was seated next to Stone who came from the audience to do her presentation. Maybe he decided to...

Re: The Iron Petticoat resurfaces
The history of this film's legal battles sounds way more interesting than the movie itself.
I was able to watch The Iron Petticoat on german TV some twenty years ago and it must've been the butchered, blowtorched version as all I remember is actually a disastrously unfunny cold war tale.

Re: Facts and Trivia
Hugo is the biggest tech-only (= no Top 8 ) winner since Star Wars , who won six. It is the second biggest tech-only winner in Oscar history, as there are lots of movies with four Oscars, like recently The Matrix and many Spielberg movies, but only Hugo managed to get five, just behind the all-time...

Re: César Awards
Not really unexpected as Intouchables was a huge popular success here (nine times more admissions than The Artist ) and Omar Sy was the most probable way to honor the movie, as it was obviously not going to win Best Picture. I think The Artist did just fine and the Dujardin loss doesn't represent an...

Re: Honorary Oscars
For the record, I'd put James Earl Jones somewhere in a limbo between Bellamy/Wallach level and the genuine legend group represented by O'Toole. Jones, too, has put in about half a century, though it's been more diffuse -- his most famous work remains onstage or as a voice behind animation (Lion Ki...
