Re: Categories One-by-One: Director

Since the 60's, DGA have missed the Oscar winning director roughly once per decade, the exception being the 2000's having made two eventual non winning choices: - Anthony Harvey, The Lion in Winter - Francis Ford Coppola, The Godfather - Steven Spielberg, The Color Purple - Ron Howard, Apollo 13 - A...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Score

I've just found out Jóhann Jóhannsson, Sicario 's composer, died last year. I wasn't a fan of his Golden Globe winning score from The Theory of Everything , but we can't deny it's a beatiful, although intrusive and by the numbers one. His work for Sicario was way better. He died in Berlin on 9 Febru...

Re: Best Cinematography 2015

Had to recast my vote... I initially voted having seen 4 nominees... Last night I watched Sicario . Never thought it would made me change my vote. An amazing film... the visuals are not only beautiful to look at (which some of them really are) but also poignant and contemporary and decidedly at the ...

Re: Details of the February 24th Presentation

Well... the whole show production has been a continuous joke all the way. Has this been a strategy to be constantly on the news?

This is deeply, deeply disturbing: Elliott Abrams, prominent D.C. neocon, named special envoy for Venezuela "Elliott Abrams, a controversial neoconservative figure who was entangled in the Iran-Contra affair, has been named as a Trump administration special envoy overseeing policy toward Venez...

Re: Details of the February 24th Presentation

OK, I just did some YouTube snooping. Last year, the entirety of the Cinematography prize was 3:00 (i.e. that's how long the YouTube clip from the Academy is). The winner spoke for :53 of that. Last year, the entirety of the Film Editing prize was 3:03. The winner spoke for 1:05 seconds. Last year,...

A recent tweet by The Academy: "It's short, but it's heartfelt...and it's full of meaning." - #Oscars producer Donna Gigliotti explaining what makes a great #Oscars speech before showing this example at the #OscarsLunch --- The example is Steven Soderbergh's speech... a great and memorable...

Re: SAG Predictions

At the end of the day there are always going to be winners included in the 'ensemble' who really don't stand out individually but collectively they do contribute to help make a film what it is successful or otherwise. Winners or for that matter nominees... This year we had the weird inclusion of Ha...

Academy Awards Ceremonies - A Trivia Regarding the Number of Nominated Films

Maybe this is common knowledge for some of you, but I'd like to know: 1. What was the ceremony with the largest number of nominated films (including foreign films and shorts)? How many films do you have to watch in order to see all the nominated films fromt hat year? 2. What was the ceremony with th...

Re: SAG Predictions

"Black Panther" wasn't even the second best comic book movie of the years. In the Oscars it was nominated for Best Picture but not for director, screenplay, acting, cinematography, or editing. I wonder how many movies had that "distinction" in the last 50 years? At least one: Se...
