Re: I'm always here for the Trivia

- Second consecutive year that the Best International Film wins sound. Too soon to talk about any trend but it is striking. I think you're confusing this with BAFTA. The sound Oscar last year went to Top Gun: Maverick (shudder memory), not All Quiet. This is, in fact, the first year the Sound Oscar...

Re: Best Picture

Wasn’t Pacino supposed to present best picture with Michelle Pfeiffer? Undisclosed personal family reasons prevented her from making it to Los Ángeles. https://nypost.com/2024/03/11/entertainment/michelle-pfeiffer-misses-oscars-reunion-with-scarface-co-star-al-pacino-for-personal-family-reasons-rep...

Re: I'm always here for the Trivia

- Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are now the second married duo to win best picture, with “Driving Miss Daisy” producers Richard D. Zanuck and Lili Fini Zanuck as the first. They are at least the fourth. Julia and Michael Philiips won for The sting, Fran Walsh and Peter Jackson did for that Ring...

Re: I'm always here for the Trivia

- Oppenheimer is the first Best Picture to win both actor and supporting actor since Ben-Hur (1959). - In the entire history of Best International Film (throughout the multiple denominations it has had) it is the first time that UK has won (in its third nomination). The previous nominations (Hedd Wy...

Re: I'm always here for the Trivia

Apparently, at 22 Billie Eilish is the youngest-ever 2-time Academy Award winner.

Re: I'm always here for the Trivia

If Eilish and Finneas win, WWIMF will join the short list of Best Song winners at both the Oscars and the Grammys. However, it would be the first time in more than 25 years: this has not happened since Titanic's My Heart Will Go On.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Cinematography

But what if ASC follows its British cousins and goes for Poor Things? It's not as if the film isn't stunningly photographed -- I'd put the lighting of the skies in Lisbon up against any image in Oppenheimer . I would argue that is more (or as much) a function of the visual effects than the cinemato...

Re: Oscar Nominations Announced

I knew that when Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie were ignored that there would be a backlash. I don't understand why everyone is so surprised about Robbie missing the Best Actress nod, it seems that over the months (and driven by the commercial success the film experienced, which has little or nothi...

Re: Oscar Nominations Announced

Foster is not going to win a third Oscar for Nyad over Randolph, but I wouldn't rule her out taking home a third Oscar in the not-too-distant future. This… Her nod may be some kind of comeback (her performance in The Mauritanian may be the first hint of this process) so yes… a third Oscar, dependin...

Re: Oscar Nominations Announced

I've accepted that Cillian Murphy (who absolutely deserved his nom) will be passed over in favor of Giamatti. I think Murphy will win as part of a 9-award sweep for Oppenheimer -- Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Lead Actor, Supporting Actor, Original Score, Film Editing, Cinematography, and ...

Re: Nominations Announcement

Random comments: - Sad for the unenthusiastic journey KOTFM is going through, probably my favorite film of the year. I am glad for both DeNiro and Gladstone but no screenplay (and to some extent, no DiCaprio) means the film is officially now an afterthought in the race. - Oppenheimer is flying solo,...

Re: 2023 Oscar Predictions

anonymous1980 wrote I may have to adjust my predictions because Barbie is officially being submitted as an ORIGINAL screenplay. Of course, the final decision rests with the Academy but for now, that's where it's being pushed. The Academy will probably honor their request regardless of whether the W...
