Precious Doll wrote:Criddic - you haven't indicated which animated film is the best.

I updated my own list to include See You Up There.

Re: The 19th Annual Who'll Be Back?

I've been meaning to respond to some of these comments for a week or more, but life has intruded. Belatedly, a few points: McDormand is a fascinating case to me. Five nominations over 30 years is nothing to sniff at AND she's defied so many different caveats that it seems foolish to bet against her...

Re: Oscar Predictions Contest

Thank you, everyone. It may blow Mister Tee's and others' fun in guessing the winners, but I do believe that it will be easier to predict the winners from now on, due to all the opinions out in the media. There were a ton of 23/24 predictors on Gold Derby, whereas they used to be very rare. THE RES...

I hadn't thought about the NRA being brought up on RICO charges, but that would be icing on the cake. The end of the NRA and the GOP as we know them at the same time. One couldn't hope for a better outcome. Be careful what you wish for. Too much power on one side of the ideological scale is not nec...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Best Actor

No other film or TV show, not even Law & Order , shows the legal system the way it works now in the U.S. Plea bargaining is the name of the game. It doesn't matter if you're guilty or innocent. Admit to a lesser crime to avoid the possibility of losing big time. I was recently involved in such ...

Re: 2017 Oscar Nominations

Yeah, not sure I would compare this to Joseph McCarthyism. At least, not yet. But I would be troubled if they took away someone's nomination based only on an accusation, before the person can defend him/herself in a court of law. That would be a bad precedent and send an awful message.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Visual Effects

2. Maybe Production Design, but there's no way you can seriously say "E.T." didn't deserve it's Oscar for Visual Effects. At the time, everyone I knew thought 1) E.T. was a wonderful movie, 2) it was sure to win for visual effects, but 3) apart from the flying bicycles, its special effect...
