Re: Coronavirus and the Tonys

I was so pleased to see that Paul Hilton and Lois Smith both won featured acting Drama Desk Awards for their performances in The Inheritance. Richly deserved.

Re: 92nd Oscar Nominations Announcement

Okay, I’ll bite: How is Joker a “knock-off” of Taxi Driver when not one of the plot points of the latter appears in the former?

Do you know what the word “homage” means? Did you think Us was a rip-off of The Shining? Your position is a tad simplistic and you’re not backing it up with any specifics.

Re: 92nd Oscar Nominations Announcement

I basically called the Kathy Bates nomination after I saw Richard Jewell last month. There was no way she was not getting nominated for that performance. She was fantastic. Sam Rockwell would have been worthy in Best Supporting Actor. Leonardo DiCaprio raking in another undeserved nomination. I woul...

Re: 92nd Oscar Nominations Announcement

I’m still shocked that OUATIH keeps getting screenplay nominations for Tarantino. There was absolutely no plot whatsoever. Parasite should absolutely win over that.

Re: Parasite SPOILER discussion thread - don't read if you don't want the film ruined for you

This reminds me of a speech from Lanford Wilson's Burn This, where a character says movies aren't actually intended to turn out well, and if they accidentally do, they're remade poorly like they were supposed to have been in the first place. I played the character who said that in a college product...

Re: Judy reviews

On one hand, Zellweger's moment is all about the performance she's giving while Glenn Close's moment last year was more about her career. Zellweger's is also about her career. Rather, her not having one for years. This will be an apology Oscar. What an absurd comment. Zellweger’s performance has be...

Can probably scratch Kathy Bates out of contention with this controversy and the films flat box office: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/dec/13/richard-jewell-kathy-scruggs-olivia-wilde-irresponsible That would be a real shame because Kathy Bates is superb in this and would be a very worthy Be...

Re: Richard Jewell reviews

I found the Richard Jewell trailer to be very compelling and had high hopes for it (which seem to be validated by positive initial reactions which are now being reported after a recent screening). I also think the story of a regular Joe who is put on a pedestal by the media and then hastily thrown i...

Re: Bohemian Rhapsody

"Almost everyone admitted that “Bohemian Rhapsody” was a guilty pleasure to watch, however, as Rami Malek turned in an Oscar-worthy performance as Freddie Mercury. I cannot parse this sentence. What is the deal with it? I have read it six times and it doesn’t make any sense. It just stops abru...
