Re: Call Me By Your Name reviews

I always like reading whatever you have to say about anything, and I’m glad your overall view of the film is good. Could you mention some of other those “summer of discoveries” titles? Not the obvious ones, of course, but some more obscure films that are worth discovering or mean something to you. ...

Re: Call Me By Your Name reviews

(Were this movie taking place in 2017, obviously certain elements would be different, but I'd honestly find it a lot less believable that a guy like Oliver would fall for Elio at all.) Why..? :D I don't have time to reply to any single absurdity which this thread is full of. You guys should get a l...

Re: Call Me By Your Name reviews

My God, I loved this film so much. I have nothing of interest to say but a few subjective remarks. It was just a landmark experience to behold, a deeply moving and intellectual one. I have read the novel, and James Ivory has definitely improved it. What an extraordinary, exquisite screenplay. It’s a...

Re: It's Trivia Time

Every best Adapted Screenplay winner was nominated for Best Picture, with the exception of The Bad and the Beautiful, Sling Blade and Gods and Monsters. Fortunately, that clearly pushes James Ivory ahead as practically a lock to prevail. Logan, Molly’s Game and The Disaster Artist don’t have a chanc...

Re: Final Oscar Nominations Predictions

Let's play wild. I'm expecting some out of the blue inclusions, let's hope we'll have some fun, otherwise, what's the point? Nominations morning should be more exciting than the envelopes' opening, especially in a year like this one. BEST PICTURE Call Me By Your Name Dunkirk The Florida Project Get ...

Re: Pre-Christmas Look at the Top Races

One thing I have thought about in relation to Sally Hawkins chances of winning Best Actress is, as far as I know, everyone nominated for Best Actress for playing a mute character, Jane Wyman, Marlee Matlin, and Holly Hunter, has won. Does anyone know if there were other Best Actress nominations for...

Re: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri reviews

I loved reading your discussion. When the film began I was alreadly deeply committed listening to the delightfully beautiful ''The Last Rose of Summer'' from the opera ''Martha'' by Friedrich von Flotow, the Thomas Moore poem that became a traditional Irish song. Its lyrics deals with one of the mai...

Re: DGA Nominations

It doesn’t matter who gets snubbed at the Oscars. There will be outrage anyway. If Gerwig, no women. If Peele, no black. If Nolan, let’s burn the theatre. If Del Toro, doesn’t make sense. I only see McDonagh missing, even if Three Billboards is the presumable frontrunner. No matter what it’s really ...

Re: Independent Spirit Nominations

No James Ivory in Screenplay. That seems capricious, I hope that won’t hurt his chances. I haven’t seen Call Me By Your Name yet, but I want it anxiously to win, given how wonderful the reviews and the novel are. It won’t be released in Spain til mid February, just imagine. I’m desperate and angry.

Re: Oscar Predictions Thread - TIFF to NBR

It would be so outrageous if she’d finally manage to win this category with a borderline lead role, again, for the fourth year in a row, if we consider Arquette a lead. We have two character actresses in the run, let’s hope common sense will prevail.

Re: 2017 Emmys

I'm glad for Elisabeth Moss and Ann Dowd, both of them deserving, even though the former should have won before for Mad Men hands down, but I think that The Handmaid's Tale is quite an overrated show. I haven't read Atwood's novel, but the series is monotonous, repetitive and shallow in terms of how...

Re: Rare Films - Can anyone help me?

Both Volver a empezar and My Dearest Señorita are available on Bluray Region B in Spanish editions, the former with English subtitles and the latter without any of them. I guess it must be difficult to find some ''old'' Spanish films in the United States, even if they won the Foreign Language Oscar ...
