Barcelona to Dusseldorf Flight Tragedy

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/25/world ... .html?_r=0

What's happened today is terrible. All those countless mourning families... Terrible. Human defencelessness goes beyond all assimilation.

Re: Best Screenplay 1982

You're 15! I even dared thinking I was the youngest here with 22! That's amazing. Yes, we are the newest here, and I'd like to apologize myself too for some of my polls which deal with subjects already discussed. I'm sure we'll try to know more about this board's dynamic as soon as possible and we'l...

Re: Best Actor 2014

I'm totally with Mister Tee on Redmayne's assessment. Why Cumberbatch's performance is so underrated is something I don't understand. And comparing both performances in terms of which one is the most audience-pleaser is kind of pointless, no disrespect meant. Redmayne is fine and nothing more, and i...

Lead or Supporting?

I've always had this doubt, and I'd like to know your opinions, because she has many screen time and her character a great narrative importance in the movie. I think she's a leading role, and her win was category fraud. If she's supporting, so is Grace Kelly in Rear Window, for instance.

Foxcatcher received five nominations. One could argue that it was screwed out of a Best Picture nomination by less worthy fare.
Yes, and that's another evidence of the Academy's fight of bents nowadays.

Re: Best Picture and Director 2014

I voted for Birdman and Iñárritu without hesitation. A great achievement and a joy of a movie. And I can't still believe the Academy rewarded it. For me, the best Best Picture winner since 2000, alongside Million Dollar Baby & No Country for Old Men. Nor Boyhood nor Linklater need award's recogn...

Best Oscar Hosting of the Decade

Share your thoughts and write down who do you think should host the Oscars in the future! It's a poll I'm interested in considering how important a good host is for the show's success, no matter now the quality of the films nominated.

Re: Best Actress 2014

CalWilliam, could the word your looking for be "smug" or "entitled"? Not that I agree, but it seems that that is what you are trying to say. Thank you, Big Magilla. Smug fits perfectly. Don't misunderstand me. I like Reese work, she's a perfectly competent actress, with two perf...

Re: Best Actress 2014

[quote="The Original BJ] I'm not sure what the comment about this being a "selfish" performance means, especially because what I liked most about the performance was her generosity to her scene partners, the way she radiates a very humane sense of kindness to the people she meets alon...

Re: Best Actress 2014

Not many things to say here. Felicity Jones does her job, that means, she does what she has to do. What an overrated performance. Rosamund Pike may be pleased. The Academy hated her movie but she was rescued anyway, though this is not a memorable villain, but an enough charismatic one that may wake ...

Re: Best Actor 2014

Eddie Redmayne, who is even a luckier guy. Falling in love with Marilyn, singing to French Revolution and impersonating Stephen Hawking was enough for the Academy to give him this accolade, but that won't be enough for us, apparently. I am getting a little tired of everyone talking like Eddie Redma...

Re: Best Actor 2014

It's a pretty good selection, though with David Oyelowo and Timothy Spall or even Oscar Isaac it would have been stellar. What a lucky man Bradley Cooper is. Three nominations in a row are not a free present and he'll probably win an Oscar soon. As Chris Kyle, he delivers some subtlety and strong co...

Re: Best Supporting Actress 2014

Another weak supporting line-up, but far from being bad. Meryl Streep is the first to remove. It's always pleasant seeing her at the Academy Awards nominated, but she doesn't need this nomination at all. Of course she is the best aspect of Into the Woods. I have said this before. I think Keira Knigh...
