Re: Major Changes to Oscar Telecast

I had hopeful expectations that a reversal would happen. After all, the original announcement was made during Mercury retrograde.

Re: Major Changes to Oscar Telecast

I think what they want to eliminate with the below-the-line Oscars is the dead air while the winners from the back of the auditorium walk to the stage. Didn't they attempt to fix this in the early aughts with the presenter in the audience and the winners accepting from their seats? Did it last beyo...

Re: Major Changes to Oscar Telecast

What made it longer was the expansion of commercial time within each hour (from probably less than ten to almost twenty minutes) and a decision to extend the length to 3 hours to create more of that valuable/saleable time. It's greed, and the tech people are supposed to pay for it. Right on! Also, ...

Re: Major Changes to Oscar Telecast

...it's only an awards show and not a crumbling American republic. They’re giving a Kennedy Center Honor in December to the musical Hamilton – why?! Now this! Looks like crumbling to me. The earlier air date starting in 2020 makes sense as long as it doesn't mean the precursors then start occurring...

Is Oscar balloting fully online now?

The balloting opened January 5th and closed January 12th which is a short window for mailing so I'm assuming paper ballots are totally gone now and it's a fully online process. Can anyone confirm?

Re: The Broadcast Film Critics (Critics Choice) Awards nominations

Couldn't they have nominated Greer Garson as Best Actress to make it seven total, just like the guys?

Re: Golden Globe Reactions

In all the years of the CB DeMille award (before Oprah) only twice, to Red Skelton and Lucille Ball, has it been given to someone who is primarily a television star.

Re: SAG Nominations and Predictions

The decision doesn't mean that the broadcast won't include men onstage at all, as video clips from the film ensemble category might be introduced by its nominated male actors. And of course, the male winners will take the stage. Well, how generous of SAG to allow this. Question - is this virtue sig...

Re: R.I.P. Jerry Lewis

Jerry Lewis felt slighted by the Academy and bitterly blamed the fact that comedies did not have a separate category apart from dramas. Yet, the Globes recognize comedy and Jerry got nothing from them for his own work, only a nomination for Boeing, Boeing (1965). The Nutty Professor (1963) got nothi...

Karl Malden in Patton should have been nominated instead of Marley.

Re: 89th Oscars: General & Ceremony Discussion

Greatest Idea Ever...Invite Warren and Faye to June's Tony Awards to present Best Musical. I'm not kidding. If Faye can survive Mommie Dearest, she can survive this. Warren, on the other hand, must feel totally humiliated and could use a do-over. Why the hell didn't he just say, "I must have th...
