Re: Oscar Nominations
The voting math is interesting for Andrea Riseborough. Say there are 2,000 members of the actors’ branch. If 20% or 400 are passionate about her performance and they all slot her in as their Number 1 choice on the ballot, she gets in. The other 1,600 voters may have never heard of her or seen her pe...

Judd H's gap is 42 years...not the record but definitely in the Top 10.

I know that Madonna did not make a movie in 2022 but still, she should be nominated for Worst Visual Effect of the year.

Re: DGA Award Nominations
Oh FFS, stop with this shit about diversity and the obsession with identity checklists and potential backlashes. The DGA nominated six men – the horror! If we must go down this route, need I remind you of who has won the Oscar for Best Director for the past decade.

Re: NBR Winners
The Best Picture Oscar race is over - Top Gun Maverick wins hands down. AMPAS is scared shitless about its slide into irrelevance and a big-tent, crowd-pleasing blockbuster with a touch of quality prestige is made to solve all problems. I've never been more sure of Best Picture winner this early in ...

Re: Bad Ideas Never Die: Eight Awards Bumped from the Oscar Telecast
In an America where people take pride in identifying themselves as being of another culture, race, or gender why shouldn’t the Oscars follow suit. In effect, the Oscars want to be the Grammys. They want fewer awards presented, no old-timers on stage (they can have the Governors Awards), and no craft...

Re: Notable Firsts and Records
Meryl Streep's record for going without an Oscar nomination is four consecutive years...1991, 92, 93, 94.
She ties her own record this year...2018, 19, 20, 21.
If she's not nominated for anything next year she'll beat it.
Yes, don't cry for Meryl!

Re: Oscar Nominations
It's not likely, but possible that this will end up a year like 1952 when the front-runners for Best Picture were a western ( High Noon ) and a film set in Ireland ( The Quiet Man ), both of which were nominated for Best Director (with one winning), while the surprise winner turned out to be a box-...

A funny, yet true, comment from a poster on Deadline.com "Jimmy Kimmel truly has a special talent. He hosted the Oscars and delivered the LOWEST ratings in their entire history. So naturally, in their marketing brilliance, the Academy then asked him to host the following year again — at which p...

Back before the precursors I thought that Annette Bening (The Report) and Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey) would be locks as Best Supporting Actress nominees...even wondered if this would finally be Bening's year to win an Oscar. My how things change quickly.

I'm just starting to pay attention to the Oscar race now so forgive me if this has been discussed already but how the hell does Tom Hanks get a Supporting Actor nomination in a film that's entirely about his character "Mr. Rogers" ?

Mahershala Ali who won the Supporting Actor Oscar for Moonlight (2016) presented the Supporting Actress Oscar to Allison Janney for I, Tonya (2017). Now, she has the opportunity this year to hand it back to him for Green Book which is likely to happen as he is the heavy fave. This reminds of: Joan C...
