Re: R.I.P. Barbara Hale

I remember her appearing with Amanda Blake (Gunsmoke) and Dorothy Provine (The Roaring 20s) on one of the variety shows in the 60s where the three of them did a number showcasing their characters - "I'm Kitty, I'm Pinky, I'm Della"
They're all gone now.

Re: Mad Men's Final Season

Peggy on roller skates, to "Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo" = divine
And before that, I think Roger was playing the music from Carnival of Souls. The episode reminded me of that movie a little bit.

Re: Mad Men's Final Season

For those enamored with the music of Mad Men, here's a nice article on Matthew Weiner's dedication to selecting the 6os (and 50s) music he wanted to accompany his story: http://www.npr.org/blogs/therecord/2015/04/07/398036767/a-nearly-comprehensive-guide-to-the-music-of-mad-men When he mentioned usi...

Re: Mad Men's Final Season

"The Strategy" and "Waterloo" were a great one-two punch to end the first half; and I enjoyed the often optimistic tone of the final episode for a change. Those not familiar with How to Succeed... may wonder what the big deal was with Robert Morse's song and dance routine, seeing...

Re: Mad Men's Final Season

Besides the weekly foreshadowing of the Manson/Tate murder, there was a clever nod to 1968's 2001: A Space Odyssey, when Ginsberg, feeling possessed by the new computer, is reading the lips of Lou Avery and Jim Cutler who are standing in the computer room out of earshot. The back and forth camerawor...

Mister Tee wrote: Bert's lacerating of Don was vicious -- and brought me to think, Hey, Bert, what exactly do YOU contribute these days? We never see him doing anything but sitting around his office.
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. I miss Robert Morse's devilish imp from his bygone days.

Yes Tee - Lost Horizon's intro: "In these days of wars and rumors of wars - - haven't you ever dreamed of a place where there was peace and security, where living was not a struggle but a lasting delight? Of course you have. So has every man since Time began. Always the same dream. Sometimes he...

Re: Mad Men's Final Season

I'm excited too. Again, great use of pop music with The Spencer Davis Group and Vanilla Fudge. Quiz: What was the title of the movie that Don and Megan started watching, but Don shut off after Megan started falling asleep?

Re: Mad Men

Next season will be Mad Men's last one. Creator Matthew Weiner has stated that even with several of the characters located in California, everyone will get the spotlight at some point. This past season seemed to fulfill the Mad Men opening credit sequence. It wasn't as much fun as other years, but i...

Re: Mad Men

That's exactly what I thought watching it. I said to my wife: "Is this a David Lynch episode?". I was expecting the log lady to stroll in. Don Draper is in meltdown this year, and John Hamm had his best acted segment. Nice to see January Jones looking more like her old self, and still dish...

Re: Mad Men

When Don had Sylvia holed up in the Sherry-Netherland, or whatever hotel it was, I thought he was trying to get her to go back to her husband, without outright telling her it was over. I expected to see a sly smile from him after she walked out. However, his pathetic "please" when she said...

Re: Mad Men

"I think it's so groovy now that people are finally getting together..." Despite Don's self-destructive spiral, it's still the best show on TV. Koss headphones - I had the Pro4AAs back then -heavy as hell, but great sound. Liked them so much, I've had Koss electrostatics since 1994, and I ...

Re: Best Actor 1932/33

Speaking of TCM, this October, they are showing the 1929 version of The Letter, with Jeanne Eagels' nominated performance. I think it's a TCM premier. I don't know if it has become available on DVD.

Re: Mad Men

Interesting final scene in the bar. It seemed that the bloom went off the rose with Don and Megan, after she stiffed her friend and Don relunctantly got her the audition. With You Only LIve Twice on the soundtrack, after the proposal from the ladies I thought to myself "Bond is back" By th...

Re: Shirley MacLaine to receive the AFI Life Achievement Aw

Well done. I didn't realize Jezebel had four. I had Mr. Roberts and How the West was Won (Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck, James Stewart and John Ford, who was once again a co-director)
