Re: Best Supporting Actor 1998

Oh... and I completely forgot about Donald Sutherland, who was indeed wonderful in Without Limits. Alternate universe scenario: Had producer Tom Cruise still been young enough and played Steve Prefontaine, might the film have been a substantial commercial success instead of the utter flop it was......

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1995

Oh, and koook160, you have a really cunty tone for someone so new to the board. I admit, my tone was too harsh, and I should probably establish myself before I start a debate. But I don't think that gives you the right to call my tone "cunty". So I ask you; Where do YOU get of? You're rea...

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1996

Macy was great, but the problem with his category fraud is that it denied his co-star Steve Buscemi of a richly deserved nomination.

I think he's mentioning that William H. Macy is much more a case of fraud in Fargo than Kevin Spacey is here.
Yes, yes it is. Sigh...

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1995

There are some films that have no lead and then there are some films that have borderline leads. I'm one of the Board's biggest prosecutors of category fraud. Pulp Fiction? There are either two leads (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson) or they're all supporting. L.A. Confidential? Guy Pearce and ...

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1995

Come on, I grow weary of this board's constant denial of category fraud when it stares them in the face. What the hell are you talking about? In film, sometimes there are parts considered as supporting other aspects of film? (it is allowed to be inanimate like a story, idea, etc...at least in my op...

Spacey was great in The Usual Suspects, but he was even better in Se7en. That, and he was lead in The Usual Suspects. Come on, I grow weary of this board's constant denial of category fraud when it stares them in the face.

Yes, because being in 90% of a movie and being the main character is supporting if you're a young person. Please, at least be somewhat honest if you're going to engage in category fraud. Not that it's really possible to do those things at the same time.

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1987

My nominees for this year: Vincent D'Onofrio, Full Metal Jacket R. Lee Ermey, Full Metal Jacket Vincent Gardenia, Moonstruck Dennis Hopper, River's Edge *WINNER* Mandy Patinkin, The Princess Bride D'Onofrio is sort of a joke to some people. I like him quite a bit, but others dismiss him as a ham wit...

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1983

In my opinion, the Best Supporting Actor of 1983 was Darren McGavin in A Christmas Story. It was a perfect blend of humor and heart. I'd go as far as to declare it one of the finest comdeic performances ever. Feel free to disagree.

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1972

I find the amount of love for Joel Grey rather disheartening. In my opinion, he's one of the the worst winners in this category. He's no Martin Landau or Heath Ledger, when it comes to deserving performances winning.

Re: Best Supporting Actor 1961

I've never had the sense Maximillian Schell's role was supporting, and have no idea why so many here seem convinced it is. I agree 100%. A big pet peeve of mine is category fraud. This is one of the rare instances where the Academy didn't give in to it. Remember folks, there can be more than one le...

Re: The Official Review Thread of 2011

Warrior left me wanting a hell of a lot more. It felt like a cheap, overwrought knockoff of The Fighter, a much, much better film. I must of missed something involvinh Nolte, because, for me, he was blubbering Oscar-bait that the Academy fell for hook, line, and sinker. Edgerton, on the other hand, ...
