Re: Oscar Nominations
Some of you may know: there are now people who record reactions to nominations in real-time for YouTube. I’m not proud of this, but I watched a few, last night; the viewing confirmed my take: this set of nominations discombobulated the minds of the Oscar community more than I’ve ever seen. I've hap...

Re: Oscar Nominations
....a hearty disagreement with those who said the presentation this morning was good. I found Leslie Jordan insufferably cute, and his mispronunciation of names so egregious, I retroactively apologized to Tiffany Haddish. Not knowing how to pronounce Denis Villeneuve’s name at this point is unforgi...

Re: R.I.P. Betty White
Looooovve Betty White yet I couldn't believe she won back-to-back Emmys over Rhoda's little sister (Julie Kavner as Brenda Morgenstern) in the mid-1970s. (That's how much of an awards show junkie I was even then.) Happy 2022!! Health, peace, and happiness for all of us,

Aunjanue Ellis as Oracene is receiving quite a bit of buzz for a Supporting nomination -- it's all about one confrontational scene with Richard.

Re: R.I.P. Ed Asner
The Mary Tyler Moore show is my all-time favorite television series, mostly because it provided such comfort during my challenging teen years. Agree, though I wasn't quite a teen during most of the show's run. Ironically, Ed Asner was supposed to make an appearance here in my hometown in September....

Re: Best Actor 1968
1) I liked the book Flowers for Algernon; in fact, worked on a scene from it for an Interp class in college. The scene -- Charly visiting the shop of the father who abandoned him and now doesn't recognize him,,,,) No kidding! I was on my junior high school's speech team and one girl did a reading f...

Sad news. I'm casually associated with Transylvania U. here in Lexington, Kentucky judging with their speech & debate program since 1992. Beatty attended this university yet didn't graduate. I was just playing Beatrice Straight's Oscar clip. Afterwards, the camera pans to her co-star & fello...

Re: NBC Pulls Out of Telecasting Golden Globes
I see this going one of four ways: 1. This will all get resolved before the end of the year and the awards go on like usual. Following this line of thought, the network said it was hopeful it could resume airing the show in January 2023. NBC’s contract with the Globes runs through 2026. Fingers cro...

Agree. Cinematography was THE toss-up category (for me) this year. Messerschmidt vs. Joshua James Richards.Big Magilla wrote:
Mank was my, and most people's, runner-up prediction for Cinematography. Messerschmidt's dazzling photography covered a lot more than furniture.

Agree, with "Speak Now" from One Night in Miami... having a competitive edge. Diane Warren's overdue status could factor in, yet it took many years for AMPAS to cut Randy Newman any slack.criddic3 wrote:I think this one is between "Lo Si (Seen)" and "Speak Now,"

This is a rough one (and so close to Oscar time). His co-star Glenda Jackson's unexpected Oscar win is why I enjoy analyzing and discussing upsets so much.
