Re: Song And Score Eligibility

4 songs from Django Unchained? A Tarantino soundtrack has a shot at a Best Song nomination? That...could happen.

Re: R.I.P. Ernest Borgnine

I actually had the chance to meet him 12 years ago. He was a true gentleman and the nicest person, so far from what you'd expect from a celebrity.

Re: ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY's Oscar Odds? Not in SPECIAL Issue

I'll just say this, reading the justifications from their "voters" make me no longer care who the winners are anymore.

Costume Designers Guild Winners

Not sure how accurate their winners are to the Oscar winners, but if they are accurate, then the Costume Design race just got really weird. From the Entertainment Weekly website: 'Harry Potter,' 'Glee,' Clint Eastwood receive Costume Designers Guild Awards by Lanford Beard The winners of the 14th An...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Song

I've seen both nominees and I can tell you how they're used. Real in Rio is a bookend song that doesn't have too much in the way of lyrics whereas Man or Muppet is something that takes place at the end of the second act of the film and is both tongue in cheek and heartfelt. It's a song that Muppet f...

Re: Winner Predictions

Sorry, I read that as I posted it and thought, "that doesn't sound right." So if Hugo doesn't win visual effects, it will be the first Best Picture nominee since 1970 to lose out in Best Visual Effects. That's why I'm thinking it has a strong chance here. Honestly, I'm having a hard time p...

Re: Winner Predictions

Just had an interesting thought, if anyone is interested in the technical categories: has a movie that has been nominated for Best Picture ever lost Best Visual Effects? Except when it wasn't up against another Best Picture nominee, like Avatar over District 9, Return of the King over Master and Com...

Re: 2011 Oscar Nominations

Um, there's an interesting misprint on The Academy's page http://oscar.go.com/nominees, for Visual Effects, they list that Transformers: Dark of the Moon is nominated, but the names of the nominees are the team from The Tree of Life.

Promoted Names of Finalists

I thought it might be interesting to take a look at some of the names of people that are being pushed for nominations in their respective categories for Make-Up and Visual Effects, since we know that they're assured: Albert Nobbs: Matthew W. Mungle, Lynn Johnston & Martial Corneville Anonymous: ...

Re: ASC Nominees

Wow! Nice selection of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy over War Horse. Now the Cinematography category is going to be pretty interesting. I sincerely hope these translate five for five. :)
