Re: The Official Review Thread of 2020

MINARI Cast: Steven Yeun, Yeri Han, Alan Kim, Noel Chow, Yuh-jung Youn, Will Patton. Dir: Lee Isaac Chung. What a wonderful film. It's now available on pay-per-view in the U.S., so no more excuses for not seeing it other than it's not affordable but it costs no more than a ticket for two at a theat...

I've been spared the polar vortex. Where I'm at in Florida, it got up to 86°F today.

Re: 2021 AFI Lifetime Achievement Award

Andrews did TV work with Carol Burnett decades ago, and, the two of them are supposedly good friends. They could bring Burnett out as the queen character she played on her variety show.

Re: Hillbilly Elegy

I wonder if 1987 was really her year. Fatal Attraction was in the zeitgeist, it had over-performed with six nominations, and it was Glenn Close's first Best Actress nomination coming closer off of her three-in-a-row series of nominations for The World According to Gary, The Big Chill, and The Natur...

Re: The Biden-Harris Era

At least this time the Democrats are appearing to show some spine:

Re: R.I.P. Hal Holbrook

I did have the pleasure to see Holbrook on stage in one of his later tourings as Mark Twain. I read that he would make changes in the content from show to show to reflect the changes in world events.

Also, for the first time, there will be not a single Protestant in leadership of the major branches of government: Biden, Pelosi, and John Roberts at the Court are all Catholics, and Schumer is Jewish. Continuing this theme, does anyone know how from 1 to 5 of the U.S. Presidents could be considere...

Re: New Developments III

In an ominous sign for getting progressive legislation through the next Congress with a 50+1 Democratic majority, Joe Manchin (DINO-WV) just came out against the $2,000 covid stimulus checks.

Re: Best Picture and Director 1997

Contact is my favorite film of 1997. As none of the other Best Picture nominees are tech heavy, I like to think that the absence of Titanic would have at least led to a few additional tech nominations for Contact.

Re: Nomadland

I have yet to see Nomadland and have a question that I am curious if anyone who has seen it can tell me if/how it is addressed. I take it that at least a few characters do not have permanent addresses and travel/live in their vehicles. How are they able to maintain vehicle registration and insurance...

Re: New Developments III

Here is sort of a companion to the recent amazing scientific/technical advances that led to the covid vaccines, that should really put a smile on your faces. This is a video from Boston Dynamics, which is a company that spun off from research done at MIT, which shows robots they built that are spect...

Re: Stay Safe Everyone!

I also have a nephew by marriage who was in one of the trials (Pfizer I think) but he's in the trial for two years and they won't tell him whether he received the vaccine or the placebo. Do you know if they will tell him what he got when mass vaccinations begin, or will he still not be sure if he n...
