Re: PLEASE READ: My Fantasy Oscar League

I'm not quite sure enough about how the points work to advise on making a big-out-on-the-limb prediction, but, what about the chance, as up in the air as we are so far plus the strong desire for something feel-good there might be this year, that you could bet on Won't You Be My Neighbor? expanding b...

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

Here's a thought:

Someone who was an infant during the Bush/Gore recount could now have his/her vote be part of the Nelson/Scott and Gillum/DeSantis recounts.

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

Some perspective on the Senate: There were 35 seats up this cycle, and, Democrats have so far won 23 of them. The Republican majority in the Senate is entirely built on their large majorities in the other two classes.

Re: Best Cinematography 1962

The stunning desert scenes alone made Lawrence Of Arabia one of the all-time-most-deserving winners for its color cinematography. For their enhancement of their drab/depressing themes, my black-and-white alternatives are Long Day's Journey Into Night and Days Of Wine And Roses.

By the way, the Gaynor/March/Wellman version is available for free on YouTube, even though it is listed as the Garland/Mason version.

Re: A Star is Born reviews

On the other hand, I was shocked and saddened to discover that there are people in their 60s who only know the story from the Barbra Stresiand version, which they (excuse me while I gag), love. Well, the Streisand version is still the only previous A Star Is Born that wasn't initially released befo...

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

I hope this and the attempted assassiantions will motivate a few more people to get off their asses to go and vote for Democrats in the Senate races, especially in Arizona and Texas. So, maybe this is an example of that. As usual, I went to vote the first day of early voting where I live. I stopped...

A positive reference would have been someone like John Hurt who successfully played 21-year-old John Merrick in The Elephant Man at 40, a difference of 19 years vs. the difference of 25 years between Hurt and Vincent van Gogh. Although Merrick was so deformed and Hurt was hidden in so much makeup t...

So, now there is Hurricane Michael. It completely bypassed my area of Florida, but, it hit the Panhandle as a category 4. Apparently, it is the third-most-powerful storm ever to hit the U.S. mainland. Wow.
