Pauline Kael was a brilliant, gifted critic. I remember the thrill of getting the NEW YORKER each week and reading her reviews - she guided me to many great films. I also wrote her twice, expressing my admiration for her talents, and received sweet, modest handwritten notes from her. She meant a lot...

Maybe I am old-fashioned or a little too sensitive, but I don't understand celebrating someone's death, particularly someone like Sidney Lumet who, in the scheme of things, was harmless...
