Interestingly enough, the individual who set up this still fledgling organization just announced he's stepping down from administrative duties: https://m...

Re: BAFTA Nominations

BAFTA couldn't have more pinpointedly kneecapped Oppenheimer's two biggest threats if they'd made a conscious effort. (American Fiction as well, but the longlists already tipped off that inevitability.)

1) They have a substantial Netflix bias. The channel is almost always over-represented in nominations.
Then I think the biggest headline here is that May December's acting hopes aren't just dead, they're uber-dead.

Re: Let's Talk Best Supporting Actress

Dafoe has twice, in the last 5 or so years, been nominated for films that got no other nominations. Now, in neither of those years could it be said the competition was fierce (on check, the biggest "snubs" for either of them were probably Ethan Hawke in First Reformed and Michael Stuhlbarg...

Oscar Prospects: Probably none, but never bet against Kathy Bates or Maggie Smith, either or both of whom could pull off another surprise nomination somewhere. You know you are going to get trounced here for bringing up dear Maggie into yet another Oscar race  Every year, another Tea with Muss...

It’s early yet, of course, but it’s hard to imagine Maestro surviving “the discourse.”

Obviously he came to my attention with Femme Fatale , but I really sat up and took notice with the use of his “Bobo No Aozora” at the end of Babel , which led to Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence , and then so on and so forth. But then I went down the rabbit hole of his synth pop career (his LP Thousand...

Re: 95th Oscars General Ceremony Discussion

how often have actors won for performances judged to be their finest? I think that's often been the case with mediocre actors who hit the high note once -- Ray Milland, Broderick Crawford, Nicolas Cage -- but I wonder if it's the exception and not the rule with actors whose careers have had more st...

Any movie that makes Jeffrey Wells understand that he is, in fact, dumb is by definition not bad. That it also makes him seemingly un-ironically say that he felt "triggered"? As a very-much-dead-at-that-point Meryl said in Death Becomes Her , "These are the moments that make life wort...
