Re: The Nominations Announcement

Also, according to the Academy's Twitter, Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross will be announcing. The former makes sense. The latter is a television personality primarily, so that doesn't make as much sense. Tracee Ellis Ross stars in an ABC show. The Oscars are on ABC. Any word if both segments ...

Re: Bohemian Rhapsody

I'm actually a little vague on Singer's level of responsibility. Unless my memory is deceiving me, he didn't receive directing credit on the print I saw (I think it said Dexter Fletcher?), but IMDB lists him as director. Bryan Singer is the sole credited director. Here is my understanding of what h...

Re: Potential Stats and Records for This Year's Oscars

You're missing the obvious big one - if Alfonso Cuarón gets nominated for Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing and Foreign Language Film, he would tie Walt Disney's record for most nominations in a single year, with six nominations. At least in theory, he could break Disn...

Potential Stats and Records for This Year's Oscars

One of my hobbies is going into Wikipedia rabbit holes and among them is finding out some pretty interesting (to me, anyway) stats and records. This year's Oscar nominations are about to come out in a couple of weeks so I thought, instead of waiting for the interesting stats and records from the nom...

OscarGuy wrote:I think If Beale Street Could Talk is done for at the Oscars. With PGA, DGA, and ASC all ignoring the film over work that was easily inferior, I have no hope that If Beale Street overcomes all this.

I don't know about that. Just last year, Phantom Thread proved it's possible to overcome it.

Re: Golden Globe reactions

I might have missed it, but when was the last time Best Drama went to a film without a corresponding director nomination? Scent of a Woman back in 1992. That one didn't have a Screenplay nomination either. It won the same awards Bohemian Rhapsody did but it did have an additional Supporting Actor n...

Re: Golden Globes Predictions Contest

Since I didn't make the question clear, I've decided to give people who answered 4 or 6 the bonus points for the standing ovation bonus question. Now, the results. NOTE: No one got bonus points. I think a lot of people predicted most of the awards. NO ONE saw the Bohemian Rhapsody upset coming, too ...

They look weird this year, like dildos spray-painted gold.

Re: Golden Globe reactions

When Close won, I knew Rami Malek won. But I didn't see that Bohemian Rhapsody win coming. I thought the HFPA wanted at least a veneer of respectability and pick something respectable and understandable and not go full populist. They already honored Bohemian enough with Malek's win.

Re: Golden Globes Predictions Contest

I wasn't watching live so I couldn't count the standing ovations. I guess the answer is 4? (Carol Burnett, Dick Van Dyke, Jeff Bridges, Glenn Close?)

Yeah, WTF on the Best Drama winner.
