Re: Broadcast Film Critics Awards

You mean like Green Book competing in Comedy. Driving Miss Daisy wasn't actually a comedy either, but that's where it dominated in 1989 too.

Tee, this isn't the first year they've had the 7-nominee slates.

Re: The Host of the 91st Academy Awards Is....

Also, the Academy's board cringed at the nominations announcement last year when she butchered several names. Further, the problem with Hart is how he handled it, not that he has grown and matured since he said them. First of all, he didn't start deleting until yesterday, which shows that he wasn't ...

They aren't the first group to recognize Widows. The film had five citations prior to today. The Satellites nominated it 4 times. It was also nominated in the Los Angeles Online critics nominations.

Re: The Host of the 91st Academy Awards Is....

That was the most disgusting defense I've seen yet of Kevin Hart. NO, it is NOT natural to worry about your son being gay because he may not be into or able to partake in the customarily male exercises of society. THAT is toxic masculinity. If you worry about that, think about WHY you're worrying ab...

Bob Hope was a comedian. Johnny Carson was a comedian. Billy Crystal was a comedian. Whoopi Goldberg was a comedian. All of the considered-great hosts were comedians, mostly stand up. It was just a different era of stand up than today, not that Goldberg or Crystal are too far off from the recent bat...

Re: Golden Globe Awards

Lady Gaga and Queen Latifah should be alphabetized under L and Q respectively.

While I get that Lady and Queen are typically titles, they are not granted to either of these individuals and their names aren't Gaga and Latifah. They are single names even if they are two words.

Jumanji was a funnier film than anything else I saw last year. It's too bad you won't give it the time of day. I guess it's not high brow enough for your tastes.

Max, I was meaning that since Haddish was an Oscar contender FOR Girls Trip that they would have be at least modestly cognizant of her.

Re: The Host of the 91st Academy Awards Is....

It's like listening to a bunch of old women at the beauty parlor as they discuss that young whipper snapper Brad Pitt they've never heard of. Kevin Hart has a box office average of the 22 films he's been in of $83 million. His big hits were Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($400 million+), Central Int...

I'll have my Precursor Tallies going probably in a week or two (I'm out of town this weekend or I would already be working on it).

Re: New York Film Critics Circle Awards

I think you're dismissing young Hollywood too much. This is the group that awarded Best Picture to Moonlight over La La Land. They aren't exactly anti-mature, anti-heady themes. Also, if you've ever listened to SOME young Hollywood types talk, they revere the older works and actors, so I don't think...

Re: National Board of Review

I honestly thought Richard E. Grant would better fill the J.K. Simmons spot this year. Well respected character actor finally getting his due in a role that finally brings him attention. Sam Elliott's a character actor of sorts, but I see him less as an actor everyone has loved, but never had a chan...

Re: National Board of Review

The Favourite pulled in $104k for its weekend average and I've heard from friends who aren't Oscar watchers who are excited to see it. So, I think it just takes the RIGHT kind of movie.
