Re: Major Changes to Oscar Telecast

One thing I noted from the first article I read about these changes is that they weren't sure they would be able to have it implemented for this year's awards. That, to me, was code for "We aren't 100% sold on this idea, Dawn Hudson and ABC, but we'll see what people think first before doing an...

Re: Honorary Oscars Wish Lists and Speculation

Kathleen Kennedy is long overdue for a Thalberg. I think she, more than any other producer out there, is the most deserving. They haven't given the Thalberg award out since 2010. That's 7 years of nothing, a fairly long stretch for the Academy. They've given out five Hersholts since then (none in 3 ...

Re: Major Changes to Oscar Telecast

My concern is that this is going to push films like Black Panther out of Best Picture consideration INTO this new category. Get Out nominated for Best Picture is a far greater achievement than what this new category will be. My guess is that when the ratings don't improve because of the changes that...

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

The number of supreme court justices is not specified in the constitution, therefore, it's a legislative decision. It would probably require a veto-proof majority, though, because the R's wouldn't ever let it happen.

Re: The Official Review Thread of 2018

I don't think they were trying to hide Screenslaver's identity...if they were, they did a terrible job of it. It was a pretty easy guess.

Individuals can submit themselves in lieu of the network submitting them, so Roseanne could submit herself if she wanted.

Phantom Touring Show

So, we saw the touring show Friday night and I had a question for those who've seen it (most likely it's a touring thing and not a Broadway thing). During the rooftop scene, there's a warm, sun-like glow that slowly intensifies and casts its light on Raoul and Christine. What we're trying to figure ...

Re: Historical Oscar Short-Lists

When Damien wrote inside Oscar, one section that always interested me was the "songs not nominated." Were these his own observations or were these the shortlists?

Re: Academy Kicks Out Cosby and Polanski

Low-hanging fruit to make them look like they are doing something after their own president was "exonerated" of sexual harassment charges. I'll guarantee that they got together to expel Cosby and someone with a Polanski-axe to grind thought it would be the perfect opportunity to target him...

Good in parts, but a bloated mess it still was. It was also a massive cheat. Marvel fans should be cheated.

Re: The Official Review Thread of 2017

Amidst the hate, I will be a lone voice of appreciation. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Note that word: enjoyed. The film had a LOT of problems, mostly in the script department. It was long series of poorly connected show-stopping musical numbers. I know some said the songs sounded too much alike, bu...

Re: Cannes 2018

It's been a very long time since I last had streaming issues with Netflix. They have gotten to the point that their systems test yours as your loading up the stream and then buffer enough of the content to make the playback smooth and they continue downloading in the background while your video play...

Re: Original Song Singers

I think I may have been able to isolate some of the other ones. Can someone please verify these? Silver Shadows and Golden Dreams (still nothing) Linda from The Story of G.I. Joe was either sung by Pat Friday (one source) or Shelley Mitchell (a different source) So Little Time was apparently sung by...
