Re: Stay Safe Everyone!

Irma's not going anywhere near me, but my nerves are stretched to the breaking point over this. I can only imagine what Floridians are going through, with this huge thing looming over them for the past 10 days-plus. Is this what living through the Cuban Missile Crisis was like?

Re: Hostiles reviews

Variety's review is more, let's say, "problematic".

Re: Stay Safe Everyone!

Okay, I have no idea if any of you are in Florida (or were in Texas/Louisiana) but if you are in any area that could be impacted, stay safe. Oh, hell yeah. As long as the storm doesn't drift up the Atlantic and return, I'll probably be fine. But this looks terrifying, and I'm not sure this country ...

Re: The Shape of Water reviews

This gives me mixed feelings. I'd love to see Sally Hawkins win an Oscar, but not necessarily for a wordless role. I had the same thought, but I'll have to see it before I judge. The reviews for her are pretty rapturous. I agree. I guess I meant to say that this may overall be the general (American...

Re: Downsizing reviews

Seems to be following the usual trajectory. Rave reviews from the "legit" critics? Check! Next comes the online pans, the generational gap discussions, the numerous end-of-year critics awards, the $30-50 million box office, the 5-7 Academy Award nominations, until it finally all comes down...

Re: R.I.P. Village Voice

Today was the day they were supposed to negotiate with the unions. Instead, they folded the paper. Nice. In college, I'd look over the table of contents and buy a copy if anything appealed to me. That would be every 3-4 weeks, so you could say I was a regular irregular reader. It's how Wayne Barrett...

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

Laura Ingraham and Newt Gingrich, however, seem intent on trying to smooth over and interpret what Trump's goal was in making his statements at the infamous press conference. Gingrich is understandably beholden to Trump for making his wife, Calista, Ambassador to the Vatican, but Graham is just loo...

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

Yay!! He finally pivoted!

He went from 'unhinged' to 'batshit insane'.

Sometimes it feels like this insanity will never end.

Actually, I think it's the beginning of the end. (Meaning Trump, not us, although both are in the realm of possibility.)

Re: R.I.P. Barbara Cook

Two musical legends died today, and I really don't have anything to say about them. When I think Glen Campbell, I think of his direct musical lineage like the Oak Ridge Boys. Not for me, sorry. Barbara Cook, on the other hand, was a big part of the soundtrack of my youth. My parents were huge fans, ...

Re: Dunkirk reviews

I have no real desire to see this but - I guess this is our Best Picture in the absence of any real competitors? Having seen it, I gotta reject the premise of the question entirely, because it would have to be a real weak year if we have no movies that can seriously compete with Dunkirk. Not becaus...

You have to love this one. The Mooch's wife files for divorce over his love for Trump: http://pagesix.com/2017/07/28/anthony-scaramuccis-wife-files-for-divorce/?_ga=2.81488403.520994489.1501304699-2074004013.1497716898 I just Googled "Scaramucci" and "spend more time with his family&...
