Okay, when I turned away I must have missed it. Why did Justin Timberlake look so furious?

Re: La La Land Reviews

Since LLL is going to win big tomorrow night, I better get this in beforehand. One could make the argument that Moonlight is the better film, but it feels like an excellent first film, one that promises greater things from its filmmaker. La La Land feels like an apotheosis. A mark of a successful fi...

Re: What would your Oscar Best Picture Ballot look like

1. La La Land 2. Moonlight 3. Arrival 4. (Manchester By the Sea) I've seen only eight 2016 releases this year. :shrugs: Manchester By the Sea may not be the fourth best of the nominated films, but something in my head was, er... off as I was watching it. Simply put - and this is embarrassing - I had...

Re: Oscar Voter Reveals Her Brutally Honest Ballot

This reads like someone who visited Oscar Prediction discussion websites, read everyone's opinions on how a stereotypical Oscar voter may think, took notes, and created this character.

Re: Poll: Rename "Life Under Trump"

I'd just go back to "New Developments". I mean, we are where we are, and snarky titles seem like featherweight statements compared to the serious situation we're in right now. But I know I'm alone on this...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Supporting Actor

To be honest I have never heard of Mahershala Ali before the Moonlight acclaim and when watching the film I had know idea who he played. This made me smile. I watched Moonlight the night before the New York Film Critic's Circle Awards were announced. When I heard Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting ...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Foreign Language Film

The minute we got to the scene in Toni Erdmann of the guy masturbating onto the petit fours, I knew this wasn't gonna win the Oscar. But then again, the voters are Hollywood people and who's to say they haven't done the same thing?

Re: La La Land Reviews

I can't convince people to see this movie, and at this point I don't think they should. They're going to go into it with the intention of tearing it down. But of course. 14 nominations, as Mister Tee said earlier, practically sets it up to fail. My main issue is that they're all theater people and ...

"But it just KILLS me to imagine how much better and more interesting a movie it would have been if John Legend had been the main character/main romantic interest, instead of Ryan Gosling with his terrible 'moody white savior of jazz, a largely black art form' narrative and embarrassingly inade...

Re: Life Under Trump

I'm going to back up flipp, and say that dismissing these demonstrations as a small group of people is wildly off the mark. I lived through the 60s, and I've never seen resistance on this massive a scale. The marches last Saturday -- in mostly very cold weather -- drew somewhere from 3.5 to 4.5 mil...
