Just finished The Mark for the first time.

I think Rod Steiger was pretty good in it. Aside from Reza’s mention as a 6th spot no one else mentions him. I think he was very deserving of a nomination.

Wim Wenders would also be a good choice

Having just seen Man of the West for the first time I think Lee J. Cobb should have been nominated for supporting actor for this film instead of The Brothers Karamazov.

I’m not keen on honoring either Ford or Cruise. They’re both been enormously successful (which is perhaps reward enough), but they’re both fairly limited as actors. Ford is good at playing grumpy and Cruise is sometimes good at playing earnest, when he’s not overdoing it pouring on the smiley charm...

When Tom Hanks presented best picture to The Hurt Locker he also didn’t recap the nominees and opened the envelope straight away.

I don’t recall anyone complaining about that back then.
