Re: Simpsons question
I am almost literally in the same boat with you in terms of age, when I gave the show up, etc. My 9-year old and I have rewatched the majority of the first seven or eight seasons in the past year or so. My wife and I recently started the most recent episode available on Disney+ (season 35 or 36?? No...

He's more of a Canadian legend, but Gordon Pinsent was certainly snubbed.Mister Tee wrote:A number of very surprising omissions: Jean-Louis Trintignant, David Warner, Paul Sorvino, Melinda Dillon, Arnold Schulman, Hugh Hudson, Stella Stevens.

Re: Oscar Nominations
This probably belongs elsewhere, but Rihanna has been confirmed as a performer for the ceremony, which should provide a healthy ratings boost for ABC (especially in light of her Super Bowl halftime performance having a higher rating than the game itself). Wish the song was better, but maybe this cha...

Viola Davis Completes the EGOT
At last night's Grammy ceremonies (or the pre-show awards, at any rate), Viola Davis won a Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration, And Storytelling Recording for her memoir Finding Me , completing her EGOT and becoming the 18th person to do. She also becomes one of the rarer EGOT winners who won all ...

Re: Oscar Nominations
It was worth waking up to hear Riz Ahmed read "My Year of Dicks", pause to let the wave of laughter pass over the room, then read "An Ostrich Told Me The World Is Fake And I Think I Believe It". Relieved that Taylor Swift didn't make it into Original Song, while also sad that Jam...

R.I.P. Lisa Marie Presley
Not sure where she belongs, but based on her previous activity as a pop singer, the King's only child goes here. Shocking and very sad, dead from a cardiac arrest at only 54. She was unfairly a tabloid punching bag after her marriage to Michael Jackson but she seemed pretty level-headed considering ...

My 9-year old burst into tears when she heard, Hagrid was her favorite. My first memories of him were in the Brosnan Bond series as Valentin Zukovsky and the one episode of "Cracker" I saw. He was a genial screen presence and seemed like an upstanding person, RIP.

Re: Telecast Discussion
Jada looks terrific with her hair like that and I never thought it was a fashion statement or a movie role. I wouldn't call it the most shocking thing I've ever seen on TV (I watched the events of 9/11 with a much worse feeling) but it was definitely a blast of Lynchian unease, surreal and ultimatel...

Re: Telecast Discussion
Since it was twice mentioned, original song requires submission for eligibility. We Don't Talk About Bruno wasn't snubbed by the music branch. Disney chose to submit only ONE song for competition, as they've done countless times in recent years when they release animated musicals. They had great su...

Yeah it was certainly a better change of pace from the usual turgid balladeering - plus Charles Grodin?! Nobody saw that coming.OscarGuy wrote:I think the In Memoriam seems fitting to the spiritual, gospel style they were trying to go for.

It might be that Smith wasn't going for a knock-out punch; or perhaps Rock was too jolted by the adrenaline to really feel it?Sonic Youth wrote:He didn't look hurt.Franz Ferdinand wrote:The punch looked staged, but based on Chris Rock's face (and totally flustered delivery) it seemed very real.
