Re: PGA Winner

I think the main reason Green Book is doing so well in awards season is the pushback against the pushback. The criticisms against the film have been so over the top that its supporters are basically saying "enough is enough". It may be simple, but it's not simplistic, nor is it insulting t...

Re: R.I.P. Nick Redman

I always enjoyed listening to his commentaries which were among the most knowledgeable and informative out there. Fittingly, his last commentary was on the Blu-ray of Ford's The Last Hurrah.

R.I.P. Nick Redman

The Oscar nominated documentarian was the man behind Twilight Time, the boutique Blu-ray company responsible for the release of hundreds of films that might not otherwise have seen the light of day in the format. He died after a two-year battle with cancer. He was just 63. Obituary here: https://var...

Re: The Nominations Announcement

I don't know if I'll be able to watch it either way this year. I'm having my annual heating maintenance between 8 and 12 am on Tuesday. If the guy comes early, I will be in the basement watching him instead of the Oscar announcement. It's an appointment I had to make three months ahead of time so I...

Re: The Nominations Announcement

If you have a copy of Inside Oscar, the answer is on page 689 - it was the 1986 awards, announced at 5:30 am PST by the previous year's supporting acting winners, Don Ameche and Anjelica Huston with then Academy president Robert Wise. Wise and Shirley MacLaine did the honors the following year.

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

There's enough now for the House to vote for impeachment but not enough to insure a two-thirds majority of the Senate to remove him from office. What I find distressing now is the crap spewing out of the mouths of so-called moderate Republican commentators that equates Pelosi's disinviting Trump fro...

Re: The Nominations Announcement

I'm pretty sure we discussed this before. I know it's covered in Inside Oscar. Pretty sure it was sometime in the late 1980s that the announcements were regularly broadcast on TV. Prior to that, there was an exception with the 1954 nominations which were televised. In years past, newspapers were the...

Re: The Nominations Announcement

I watched it both on-line and TV a couple of times. The TV broadcast is time delayed seven seconds or whatever it is so if you want to be among the first to hear the results, you're better off with the on-line version. :? If you insist on TV, E! used to carry more than the Good Morning America segme...

She is not pissing off Democratic primary voters in Queens and the Bronx.

Not yet, anyway.

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

I have no idea. Her district is safely blue, but whether she keeps the seat depends on a myriad of things. She won her primary because of low turnout. If her district has low turnout in the next election or she impresses those who didn't turn out then to vote for her the second time around, she'll b...

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

I neither love nor hate her, but if she expects to be around for a while she needs to tone it down. She's one of those people that is always on, taking up all the oxygen in whatever room she's in.

Greg, Nasty Habits has been available through Warner Archive, Amazon and various other DVD sellers since August 2014. In addition to Glenda Jackson, her fellow nuns include Melina Mercouri in a takeoff on Kissinger, Geraldine Page and Anne Jackson as versions of Haldeman and Ehrichman and Sandy Denn...

Re: R.I.P. Carol Channing

The end of an era. Once there were Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, Gwen Verdon and Channing, huge Broadway stars known throughout the world who couldn't translate their drawing power to film no matter how hard they tried but remained big in the entertainment world no matter what. She lasted longer than t...

Famous (almost) last words as recounted by Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC:

"I am not a crook." - Richard Nixon

"I never had sex with that woman." - Bill Clinton

"I never worked for Russia." - Donald Trump
